The Result of our Services is the Value we add to your Project

Award Winning Project
Athenica is very proud to announce that we just won the NYC Big Apple Brownfield Award for Sustainable Development for our work at 52-01 Queens Boulevard, Queens NY. Our team was recognized for this work as it was the first project to qualify for OER’s Clean Soil Bank and for the successful off-site re-use of recognizable construction and demolition debris and boulders. The NYC Brownfield Partnership is a nonprofit organization that provides leadership and support for those in the New York City Brownfield community. Revision to Brownfield Cleanup Program
Athenica attended the New Partners for Community Revitalization’s 7th Annual Brownfields Forum in New York City on April 9th. The agenda of the forum included the new amendments to New York State's (NYS) Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) and Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Program. Governor Cuomo and the New York State Legislature have reached an agreement to extend NYS BCP tax credit eligibility which was set to expire on December 31, 2015. According to the amended law, sites currently enrolled in the program are grandfathered into the existing law and tax credits with the condition of receiving their Certificate of Completions (COCs) by the following established deadlines. The new law requires sites to obtain their COCs by March 31, 2026 in order to be eligible for the current tax credits. Sites enrolled in the program prior to June 23, 2008 must obtain their COCs by December 31, 2017; Sites enrolled in the program between June 23, 2008 and the date of the new law, must obtain their COCs by December 31, 2019 to be eligible for the current tax benefits. The new law is expected to become effective on July 1, 2015 according to the Director of Legislative Affairs for NYS DEC. For more information you may speak with Ms. Ezgi Karayel, Project Manager at Athenica or visit the DEC's website. Additionally, the new definition of a “BROWNFIELD SITE” was established as: "Any Site which has contamination at levels exceeding cleanup standards established by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) for the anticipated use of the property".
