I. News and Announcements
• James Villalobos ('17) traveled to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. last week,
reporting on the Baltimore riots concerning Freddie Gray's death, and he covered President Obama
honoring the New England Patriots at the White House for their Superbowl win. (See photo right).
• The department hosted Gabriel Dance last Thursday. Dance is the managing editor of the
Marshall Project, plus he worked at The New York Times and at the Guardian, where he was on a team of reporters that won the Pulitzer Prize for exposing the
NSA leaks. Dance delivered an informative multimedia presentation to a packed audience, sharing his wisdom in reporting via the web. (See Tumblr

• The location of today's showing of the Sydney Pollack film "
Absence of Malice" has been changed. It will be in ILC room S404 at 1:25 p.m. This is a change from ILC room 211. The film is being shown to Jim Foudy's Journalism 300 class. There will be 14 seats available for non-class members.
• Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates will talk with Professor Frank Couvares at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, in Johnson Chapel, Amherst College. The discussion is titled "
Our Era of War and American Democracy."
• In honor of Founders Day, there will be a
free campus cookout from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, on the Goodell lawn. Dining Services will prepare a "green" meal, using as many local, sustainable products as possible.
• Stop by the
Big Chill from 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at the Campus Center Lawn for live music, giveaways, and free food.
• Washington Post Columnist and best-selling author Charles Krauthammer, will present
"Consequences of American Retreat" at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at the Fine Arts Center. Krauthammer will discuss President Obama's policies and global politics. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Free for students, staff and faculty with ID.

II. Freelancing, Internships and Scholarships

The New England Society of News Editors' will host the 1st Annual
Journalism Job Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, at the New England Newspaper & Press Association headquarters, located on the suburban campus of Northeastern University in Dedham, MA. Newspaper representatives from top media outlets around New England will be in attendance to share job and internship opportunities. Students can also receive advice with interviewing skills, job search and resumes. Register for this free event

Melissa James ('10) is seeking a business development intern for her company
The Tech Connection, which unifies underrepresented groups in the tech industry. The position includes performing market research, evaluating business opportunities, compiling lists of strategic business partners, and identifying new customers. This position is not limited to marketing majors. All are encouraged to
apply. James will also host the first ever
Black Tech Boston Meetup on Monday, May 4.

Journal Junkies, a journalism nonprofit based in Springfield, is seeking interns. Journal Junkies is a new organization dedicated to helping at risk high school youth explore their journalism interests. Learn more about their internship program

WWLP-22 News (NBC) has a full-time opening for a photographer/editor/live truck operator. The position includes shooting and editing news and video stories, reporting to the assignment desk, and operating camera equipment and live trucks. The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in broadcasting, journalism or related field. A minimum of 2 years video photography in a medium or major market TV News station is preferred. Click

Graduation is approaching! Journalism seniors can find all important information on the graduation festivities
here.
The Journalism Senior Brunch will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, in the Journalism Hub of the ILC. Please bring your families and guests.
• Graduating Seniors are invited to attend the
Undergraduate Commencement Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, in the Student Union Ballroom. Have your senior portrait taken, sign up with the Alumni Association, purchase a diploma frame and other grad gear, enter to win prizes and get cap and gowns.
• If you are graduating this summer, make sure you checked your Academic Requirements Report with
Raz.
• The prerequisites for Journ 495BP: Broadcast Performance have been modified: the course now has Journ 300: Newswriting and Reporting as a prerequisite, but not Journ 395N: Broadcast News Reporting I.
• You can now
