The Spring Fling was Wonderful!
Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed the evening together. The food was delicious! Thank you Laura Litwin for creating that fantastic meal. The Talent Showcase was INCREDIBLE! Thank you to everyone who shared their wonderful talents and especially thank you to Anne Hamilton for organizing and presenting that really special show.
The Parent Council really pulled off a beautiful event that will become a community tradition and fundraiser for years to come. Thank you Jana, Cheryl, Shari, John Gray, Paula and Rosalie for all that you did to make it a success.
And a final gratitude to our student helpers from the middle school: Devon (4th grade), Travis, Sammi, Maisy, Lola, Sierra, Poppy, Reiko, Sahaja, Trey, Jonah and Eric!
Spring Concert Tomorrow Night
Our always-delightful Spring Concert is Thursday, April 23, beginning at 6:00pm in our town campus Multi-Purpose Room. The concert features our 5th through 8th grade choirs and our middle school orchestra. All students in those grades are expected to attend, but everyone is invited to come and experience the joy of children making music. This is a good opportunity for parents (and children) in the younger grades to get a glimpse of what SunRidge students can do as they move up in the grades.  Please join us!
May Faire Sunday, May 3, 10:00 – 2:00
We sure packed a lot into three weeks! Our last big school event before graduations in June is our annual May Faire on May 3. See the flier for all the needed information, but here are a few key reminders:
  • We’ll have strawberries and shortcake, but there is NO LUNCH for sale this year, so bring your own picnic and any plates and utensils you need.
  • Children will sit with their classes until the May pole dances are completed, after which they are returned to the supervision of their parents. Please do not leave children without having a designated responsible adult for them.
  • Remember to bring shortcake if you’ve volunteered to make some, and everyone is asked to bring one basket of organic, pre-washed and sliced strawberries to contribute to the huge bowls.
  • The garland makers could really use many pre-cut 30” strands of either soft willow or ivy. These should be on-site no later than 10:00am.
  • Bring your pop-up shade structure if you have one, plus folding chairs and/or picnic blankets.
See flyer here: http://www.sunridgeschool.org/events.html

Note:  Many of the dances to be done by the classes require partners or a certain number of children for a certain number of ribbons. If your child will not be attending the May Faire, be sure to inform your child’s teacher so s/he will know in advance how many students/partners will be there to dance.

Rummage & Bake Sale This Weekend
The 7th Grade is holding a Rummage Sale this Sat/Sun, April 25-26, in the SunRidge Multipurpose Room (the gym) to raise funds for their 8th Grade field trip.  You can still donate things in good condition by dropping them off in the 7th grade class room before or after school with a note stating "rummage" or call Rosalie at 823-3065 or email rosalie.simmons@gmail.com if you want items picked up from your house or office. And/or, stop by on Saturday or Sunday to see what grabs you. Thank You!
See flyer here: http://www.sunridgeschool.org/events.html
Parent Survey Please
The link to our annual Parent Survey was sent to all parents on Tuesday.  A technical problem prevented some from accessing it. That problem has now been fixed, so please click the link below and give us your feedback. The more parents who respond the better, so please take a few minutes and complete yours. Must be done by Thursday, April 30, for your input to be included in the tallied results. Thank you for your participation!

The 6th grade lunch fundraiser now has order forms available for May and June. Lunches are available for purchase by grades 3-8 on Tuesdays and Fridays through June 2.  See form for ordering information: http://www.sunridgeschool.org/hot-lunch-program.html
News From Charter Council
Planning is already underway for the intended move of our kindergartens to the town campus in 2016-17. The Charter Council established a Kindergarten Move (KM) Committee in February. The KM committee has met twice and established a time frame of initial activities through June of this year. Accomplished thus far:
1) An analysis of the town campus relative to kindergarten needs has resulted in a recommendation that the new kindergarten location be in the front area of the campus, as this would put the kindergartens within a short, safe distance to the school office. Cost estimates for placing new buildings/portables at the rear of the back parking lot indicated that this other option would be prohibitively expensive and too far away from the school office.
2) A plot map of the new site area has been acquired and complete measurements have been made for all spaces, so that design planning for all zones can now be done.
Next steps include analyzing the many steps, approvals, and skills needed for this project, and to recommend project management needs to the Charter Council and Foundation, along with a timetable for completion of the project from June of this year through August 15 of 2016.
There will also be a walk through with Sebastopol Union School district personnel to assess the condition of the front buildings and get a number of questions answered about possible improvements we might want to make.
The KM committee will at that point create additional sub-committees to begin work on different aspects of the project as per the timetable. The Charter Council will provide monthly updates to the community as this exciting and complex transition unfolds.

The Era of Media:
Children on the difficult path to freedom of mind
Join us on Saturday, April 25th at 10am for a talk with Anthroposophical Doctor Johanna Steegmans, MD., at Summerfield Waldorf School’s Sophia Hall.
We live in a time of great possibilities. The world seems to be available to us like never before. Media is with us in every space, at every time. Media, a tool that can be used to set us free to form our own judgments can be at the same time a great danger, binding us to illusion.
In this conversation with Dr. Steegmans we will try to find and understand the healthiest way for our children to grow up in the era of Media.
Sophia Hall - $5 donation at the door, no one turned away for lack of funds.

Swimming Pool?
SunRidge mom with 20 years experience is looking for a swimming pool to teach swim lessons this summer.  I would like to offer group and private lessons to our school community.  Let me know if you, or someone you know, would be willing to allow me use of the pool 2-3 times per week.  Thank you.  Jenni Meyer, (707) 490-8324.

Rental Needed
We are a family of three; our daughter is almost 11yo, and we have 2 cats and one older dog.  We have to move from Freestone and a lovely home, and this is what we desire for our next home:  very ideally, a home w 3 bedrooms on a shared piece of land, where we can freely have animals and gardens, and share in responsibilities for them with others.  We would love to live near other kids to play with, and a house that is healthy, light and warm.  Our life centers around Sebastopol, Forestville, and commute to Rohnert Park, so living in west county, west SR, along that corridor, would be ideal.  A freestanding/ solo house is welcome as well. Buying in to a shared property is a potential as well.  Thank you.  If you have any information, please call us:  Chris 495-1239 and Chris and Rolf 874-6038.

Rental Needed
Long time SunRidge Family looking for a 2 bedroom home with a yard for growing veggies. We have 2 boys (6th and 2nd). We are hardworking long time residents of West County with long-term employment. We need housing by end of August, beginning of September 2015. Please contact Paula at (707) 217-5350 or by email pwoggy@yahoo.com
