CoP mentoring brings together experienced education practitioners with colleagues seeking support and guidance across one or more aspects of education practice and education management.
The scheme is in its infancy but growing fast with mentoring topics ranging from blended and flipped learning to assessment, module design, personal tutoring, using media to enhance the education experience and achieving work/life balance.

With numbers increasing, ILIaD are now calling for new mentors and mentees to join the scheme. To find out more and hear from staff already involved please visit the

Congratulations to our Blackboard Award winners 2015

Blackboard award 2015

On the 21st of April ILIaD hosted its 3rd Annual Blackboard Awards. Over 70 modules from all faculties were nominated by students this year. A record 18 courses were shortlisted and 3 overall winners were selected. Winners received a trophy, presented by Alex Neill and Hugh Davis, and will also receive a bespoke banner for their courses, designed by the ILIaD multimedia team. The competition was very close this year and the judging panel (comprising ILIaD staff, iSolutions MLE staff and an Associate Dean Education) had a difficult time deciding the winners.

Students as Creators and Change Agents

BUFVC awards

Mark Gatenby and Lisa Harris, both from Southampton Business School, are running an Education Enhancement Fund project called “Students as Creators and Change Agents”. A team of students from across the University will help them to design the structure and create content for a new common first year which will be delivered to all undergraduate business programmes in 2015/16.
The aim for the new programmes is to offer a broad education that is organised around a liberal interest in ideas, along with contemporary relevance, to help students to understand the impact that business has on their lives.

TEL Conference - a lively start to the Enhancement theme

TEL conference

Taking place on a particularly sunny April day the Technology-Enhanced Learning Conference took place.  There was a great deal of interest both internally and externally about the conference programme and this generated a great buzz about the day both online and in the venue.

The conference provided a fantastic opportunity to meet with colleagues and to share ideas and innovations that are taking place across Southampton and beyond.

Success for our Media Development team at BUFVC Learning on Screen Awards

BUFVC awards

The ILIaD Media Development team enjoyed an evening at the BUFVC Learning on Screen awards at BFI Southbank for the nomination of Medieval Seafaring for the Courseware & Curriculum In-House Production award. This is the eleventh year of Learning on Screen which is the only UK awards celebrating media production in learning, teaching and research.

Stephan Caspar, Media Development Team Lead, had this to say about his team's success

“We’re really thrilled with the recognition that all those supporting Media Development received last night at the BUFVC awards, from the academics and learning designers to those involved in the production and behind the scenes. It was great to be in nominated in such company as BBC Learning and The Open University, we were very pleased to see that our productions are up there with some of the best and there was so much talent and creativity on show, much to inspire us and keep us innovating and working towards.” #LoSAwards @BUFVC
