Silent Retreat

May 15-17, Lost River Retreat Center

Spend a weekend in silence.

We begin the weekend with a dutch treat dinner at a local restaurant and enter silence after an orientation gathering on Friday evening. We will gather throughout the day and evening for times of group silent meditation. Meditation teacher David Evans will lead us in the times of group sitting. Make the time your own. Read, nap, walk, enjoy the mountain country setting. Before lunch on Sunday, we gather to share our experiences and all contribute to the closing worship. The cost for two nights lodging and meals is $199.00 for a private room or $149.00 per person for a double. Contact Hank or Myra if you need scholarship help or for more information.

Visit our website to register for this retreat.

Magazine Ministry

Volunteers and Donations Needed

Magazine Ministry

The Magazine Ministry has geared up for the 2015 season. To make things easier we need 4 more volunteers - one each for July, August, September & October.  Each person would pick up the donated magazines (in box located in the Coat Closet) and deliver to the designated location (on Courthouse across from current location of Vienna Drug Store and Panera Bread).  If you wish to donate used magazines, please remove all address labels and place them in plastic grocery bags. The delivery date is the last Tuesday in the month.  If you have questions, contact Claire Davis.

Fair Trade Sale

Last Chance Before Summer!

As you stroll around enjoying the Art Show, Sunday, May 17, take a little detour to the Fair Trade table for our last sale before the Fall, when we will start up again. As usual there will be coffees, teas, and the ever-popular chocolates, in 8 different flavors and various cacao strengths, from 38% to 80% cacao content, undoubtedly some of the best chocolates you have ever tasted. Stop by the table and ask about some of the new chocolates we can order in the fall!

With every purchase you make, you will benefit small struggling farmers and workers around the world who are thereby more justly compensated for their efforts. If you are interested in joining this mission effort (to help with inventory, or join the sale table), please contact Irmgard Scherer or Hazel Brandenburg

Annual Art Show

Artists Needed to Exhibit

Our annual art show is scheduled for Sunday, May 17th. Any artist in the VBC community is welcome to participate. If you paint, sculpt, draw, do any needlework, photography or do work in any other artistic field, we would be interested in displaying your work. Each year seems to be better than the last, since we have so much talent at VBC. If you are interested in participating, or for more information, please contact Joyce Salgado.

VBC Book Club

Join Others for Lively Discussion

Do you have a yen for reading a good book and engaging in lively conversation with others?   A book critic at heart who follows the latest releases?  Join us as we launch a new Book Club group that will gather monthly at different homes. We will kick things off on Saturday, May 16 from 3:00-4:30 pm at the Curtis home to discuss Alice Hoffman’s best selling book, The Dovekeepers.  To purchase a paperback or Kindle edition via Amazon, click here.

Come and enjoy appetizers, fellowship and stimulating conversation.  Bring a favorite book to share and ideas of books to read for future discussions.  For further information, contact Nancy Curtis or Carla Toenniessen ctoenniessen@hotmail.com.   We hope to see you there!

Communion Servers

Participate in Worship as a Server

Would you like to participate in a meaningful ministry of the church? As a member of VBC, you are invited to participate in serving communion on the first Sunday of the month. We follow a rotating schedule among the deacons and other members of the congregation, so each person is called to serve once every two or three months. If you are interested in becoming a part of this important ministry, please contact Andrea Harvey, Diaconate Chair , or Trula Duane, Vice Chair (trulaeduane@comcast.net). We will arrange a short training session for all new volunteers.

Peace Camp in VA

BPFNA Annual Conference, July 6-11

You are invited to join our mission partner, Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America - Bautistas por la Paz, for their summer Peace Camp from July 6th to July 11th. Peace Camp is a gathering for everyone who longs for the spirituality, inspiration, skills, knowledge and community to support a life of peace rooted in justice. Peacemakers from throughout the continent will be coming together in Harrisonburg, VA for a week of inspiration, training, and fun that will empower our personal and corporate work for justice. Through mediation, worship, music, workshops, intergenerational recreation, bible studies, movies, educational programs for all ages, and more, we’ll equip ourselves for the work of creating a better world – and we’ll have a great time along the way.
