Two ! Two ! Two Events In One!

It's an Art Show!  It's a Flower Show!

Sat. 4/25 at Carmen's from 3-6!
Stop!  It's both!  Read on, Carmen's followers, and see how we pull this trick off!
(hint:  dinners are available, plus refreshments)

It's the Flower Scout Herself!

Fresh from winning an All Over Albany Startup Grant, Colie Collen will show and sell her arrangements, and talk about her emerging business—  a flower plantation in South Troy, planted this year with 50 (!) varieties of beauteous blooms.
Come see some of the wonderful things growing in South Troy!

It's Another Naming Contest!

If it wasn't vegan we'd call it ice cream.  Truth is, it tastes better than any ice cream we've had lately!  And not a spec of animal anything in it.

Anyway, we're stumped on a name, and when a Leo and a Gemini can't find words, well, it just isn't pretty.  But if there's no cream,
it's not Ice Cream—  that's the law!

But it is tasty.  And here's the deal:  Contest is open for two weeks.  Send suggestions by return email—  we're talking the name for the product, not for a specific flavor.  The winningest one wins—  Free lunch, plus Vegan Frozen Concoction, plus all the Jim-Gerale you can drink.

Earliest postmark breaks ties.  Carmen is the judge, and she can be fickle—  her word is law.  After all, it's her name over the door.

Tell your friends—  the more the merrier!

The stupa is beautiful.  I was, joyfully, one of thousands of volunteers who built it—  all labor and materials donated. What a thrill to be one of a hundred on a given day, speaking dozens of languages, gathered from all over the world.  Or to go back a few months later, and see the nun, Jun-San, working alone, unperturbed.

Michael Gwodzd &
Renata Memole

His paintings and her sculpture, from a remarkable pair of South Troy artists.  You've been admiring their work for a month, now meet them in person.

Patches of colors, combining to make forms in ways I still don't understand.  Networks of lace restraining boils of foam, like clouds over the ocean on a slate gray day.

Again With The Hours

We'll keep running this notice, because our hours have been hard to follow.  Sorry about that, but sometimes that's how life is.

Next Sat., May 2, we start at the Farmer's Market in downtown Troy.  We'll have some of your faves, including Flamenco, Cubanos, Empanadas, Jim-Gerale and Minty Iced Tea.

Meantime, we'll be open here at the Café from 9-4 on Saturdays & Sundays, with our usual lineup of standards & specials.

Until we understand what this means in terms of staffing and prep and exhaustion and such, that's all the hours we are open.  Though we always do special events by arrangement—  let us know if you need a meeting space or want your home party catered.

Century In Concert

Michael Century is an amazing musician, with a unique view that has transfixed audiences here at Carmen's.  Hear him Saturday, 4/24, at EMPAC

David Rothenberg, clarinetist and author of Why Birds Sing,  gives a pre-concert talk starting at 7. Not to be missed!
