Workshop: Youth Employability

The second event in our free SURF Awards workshop series focuses on new approaches in providing effective employability support to young people that are disconnected from the labour market and existing education and training programmes.

Taking place in SURF's Canon Mill office in Edinburgh on Wednesday 27 May, this workshop will feature an opening presentation from Vikki Young of the WorkingRite Pioneers Programme (pictured above).

Winner of the 2014 SURF Award for 'Preparing for Employment', the initiative's Edinburgh pilot works with local employers to provide a comprehensive workplace-centred programme for vulnerable 16 and 17 year olds. Workshop participants will also hear from special guests Sandy Campbell, Founder of WorkingRite, and Michelle Gibson of SURF Awards supporter Skills Development Scotland.

Planning Ahead:The 2016 SURF Manifesto

SURF is currently undertaking an initial consultation process with member and partner organisations towards the development of a 2016 manifesto for community regeneration.

The manifesto is based on two themes: creating successful places and tackling poverty & inequality, with a shared focus on improving wellbeing at both the individual and community level.

A first draft of the manifesto will be presented and debated at the 2015 SURF Annual Conference, which will take place in Edinburgh in August, for further iteration.

The final manifesto will be shared with Scotland's main political parties in advance of the 2016 elections to the Scottish Parliament. It will also be used to inform a SURF regeneration hustings event with leading party representatives.
