Canberräng

30 July - 2 August

Canberräng is back, bigger and better than ever and we'll be swinging out across some of Canberra's best dance venues, with eight live bands and amazing DJs.  As always there is no end to the adventure, with dances, balls, after parties, lindy bombs, blues and the ever popular winery tour.

Join us this year for the Canberräng film noir mystery and help us discover Where is the King of Swing? Stay tuned each week for the continuing story of Jake Diamond as the mystery unfolds.

So get your best outfits ready for the sumptuous style of the black & white era and polish up your lindy, charleston, balboa and blues for one of Australia's best swing dance exchanges.

Registrations open 21st of May and we can't wait to see you all there.

Max & Serena's Flying Circus
Aerials Class

Saturday 30 May
10am - 4:15pm

Are you ready to soar in the air? Max and Serena (Swing Patrol Sydney) believe that a person's strength, while very useful for both bases and flyers, is secondary to learning good technique. They teach most of their aerials by focusing first on the mechanical elements including body position, leverage, arcs of movement and connection/support points, only adding explosive power once the aerial has a solid basis for flight.

There will be two aerials per session with a focus on tricks not taught recently in Canberra! The content will also vary in muscle groups used to provide people with flexibility in their flying footwork.

You will need to organise your own partner for the class. If you can't find someone try using the Jumptown Facebook page or contact us and we will see if we can help. Places will be limited, so register now.

12:45pm - 1:30pm - Lunch

Fats Waller - Ain't Misbehavin'
Stormy Weather (1943)

Stormy Weather is a 1943 American musical film and is considered one of the best Hollywood musicals with an African-American cast, the other being MGM's Cabin in the Sky. The film is considered a primary showcase of some of the top African-American performers of the time, during an era when African-American actors and singers rarely appeared in lead roles in mainstream Hollywood productions, especially those of the musical genre.

Ain't Misbehavin' is an easy going 100 beats per minute with a double bridge at the end.
