A REQUEST FROM SEAN JOHNSON

Those of you who have completed a survey to help with my Reverb this Sunday, April 26 (‘The Good Shepherd’), please resubmit you survey responses to me at my email address: skenessonj@gmail.com. Those who are yet to complete the survey may likewise send them via email.  I apologize for any inconvenience.

Prompt:

In one or two sentences -- or more if you’d like --  please describe how you or somebody you know deals with issues relating to suffering, affliction or distress.

These can be around the issues of pain in any form:  physical, mood (psychological) or those of spirituality. The healing of distress may take the form of prayer, reflection, acts of some kind, or even actions unrelated to worship-- really anything at all.

All replies are joyfully welcome!

By completing this survey you will be helping me write my reverb, ‘Listening To Suffering’ for the Fourth Sunday in Easter, April 26. Perhaps we can even use the picture we get to give us a sort of mirror image of who we are as members of the COTA community.

Thank you,

Sean

TUESDAY, MAY 5, 6:30PM
@ GEORGE: CENTER FOR COMMUNITY

(2212 NE 125TH ST / SEATTLE, WA 98125)

George: Center for Community in partnership with The Episcopal Diocese of Olympia and The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology invite you to an evening workshop where we will explore spirituality for collective liberation and spirituality to counter oppression.

We want to change the world. We want to live into the fullness of our purpose, build loving community, take effective action for social justice, and be part of people’s movements that make history. We also know that we live in a deeply unequal society and that oppression, privilege and power profoundly impact our lives, faith work, and the world around us. Chris Crass believes that the process of moving through fear into action to build our social change movements, is a transformative spiritual journey; a journey that progressive/social justice spiritual leaders are both called to go through, and to support large numbers of other people to go through as well.

This participatory workshop will focus on how we can help create supportive and healthy leadership and culture that enables us to be effective social justice leaders in our congregations and communities. He is a father, a Unitarian Universalist, and the author of Towards Collective Liberation: Anti-Racist Organizing, Feminist Praxis and Movement Building Strategy.

We'll begin at 6:30 with happy hour where you can purchase drinks if you wish and meet others. At 7:00 there will be some opening music and ritual and then Chris will begin.
