Greetings! Hope you are finding time for some enjoyable sewing! In this issue of The Scrap Basket, I'll highlight blog happenings briefly, then share a handful of posts I think you'll enjoy (including my new favorite book!) plus a round-up of clamshell tutorials and quilts - a pattern that seems to be enjoying a resurgence of popularity. Enjoy!

WHAT'S UP

Two new tutorials have been added on the blog:

WORTH A READ

Here's some interesting reads I've bookmarked since Issue 1. I hope you find something that piques your interest too . . .
  • As a non-washer of fabric, I was quite surprised at the range of shrinkage Liz/That's What She Sewed found in her Shrink Test. The results gave me pause. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
  • Quilt Photography is something I'm thoughtful of whenever I finish a project. This post by Anne/playcrafts has some good tips to think about next time you go out on a photoshoot.
  • Quilting with nano particles was unknown to me until recently, when I saw Stephanie/Spontaneous Threads use it in a project. Who'd a thought?
  • I pretty much love everything Amy/Badskirt does, and found even her Overview of Flying Geese Methods enlightening. Note there's even more methods suggested in the comments.
  • Amy has also started a new blog feature she calls Good Reads and boy is her first recommendation a winner. After reading her review, I ordered Print & Pattern Geometric straightaway, and after a quick glance through it, I can say I'm inspired and then some.

ROUND-UP

Mary/Molly Flanders...Maker... explores several different clamshell construction methods in her {Clam}Shell Game post.

Rachel/Stitched in Color also takes a look at several methods in her {Clambake} Technique Buffet. There are several cutting resources linked in her post, and elsewhere in her site you'll find the QAYG technique, which is the quilt you see pictured here.

Erica/Kitchen Table Quilting drafted a curved template in EQ7 to create her oversized clamshells. Read about her quilt here, and watch her blog for a tutorial soon.

Rachel/Snippets of Sweetness followed Latifah Saafir's pattern to create her controlled scrappy Bubblegum Glam Clam, using a template to cut all the 12" clams by hand.

Diane/Random Thoughts...do or "di" also used Latifah's Glam Clam pattern, cutting 8" clams for her Clam Bake with her accuquilt clam die.

Jennie/Jennie's Threads made use of 2" EPP papers to make her Marsala Clams, proceeding to hand-piece, applique, and quilt her quilt!

P.S. Don't forget Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day is May 6! Fun times!
