Registration closing soon for What's in the Box Mystery Quilt 2015!

GourmetQuilter News

Time has nearly ticked away......!

Hurry, Registration is about to close for The "What's in the Box Mystery Quilt", only open until the end of April!

We are thrilled at the response to this Mystery Quilt, people from all over the world are participating! So come on, join the fun! We are still looking for some super sleuths to solve this mystery! If you love a good mystery then this is for you. If you have never participated in a Mystery Quilt before, then now is the time!

You may have gathered by now that there is a Mystery to be Solved! To be part of the detective team you will need to register, with payment, during the month of April 2015, then in early May 2015 "The Box" will be mailed out to you, wherever you are in the world! The Mystery will be solved during the month of June 2015 via 8 emailed clues. There will be some occasions where you will need to report in with some of your results in order to collect the next clue, so keep an eye on things...!

There is an Introduction video here.

There will be Facebook Group page for registrants so that you can chat and share aspects of the mystery as you go. We ask that you don't post photos etc anywhere else on the internet, including personal blogs, Facebook etc until the mystery is solved. We thank you for your co-operation in this and know that you will understand the need to keep the mystery findings under wraps until the mystery is solved.

Participation in the "What's in the Box Mystery Quilt 2015" requires a once only registration payment.

"The Box" that is mailed out will have information on fabric requirements and other useful, and necessary, items that will help solve this mystery.

Registration has been set up to include the mailing out of "The Box", because of this there will be different requirements for postage, so to simplify things we have set up 3 different regions - New Zealand, Australia and World Wide.

As well as that we have added a couple of options to include some, or all, of the fabrics suggested for the quilt top.

Fabrics suggested are Kona Solids by Robert Kaufman, or Batiks by Hoffman and the thread we are using is by Aurifil.  There is, of course, no obligation for you to use these fabrics, however we have tested them and know they work!

If you are in New Zealand, register here

If you are in Australia, register here

If you are somewhere else World Wide, register here

If you have no interest in solving this mystery then I must apologise in advance as I will be doing some extra Newsletter mailouts during April in order to give everyone a chance of registering. Thank you for your tolerance.

I have been talking with a quilter who works in the travel industry and have been plotting together! Please read "Travel with the GourmetQuilter" to find out more and feed-back is very welcome.

I am expecting to be a merchant at Tote and Gloat, Rose City Quilters, Palmerston North on 9th May, and a delicious bus group will come to Toad Hall on 17th May, so many things are happening! Also planning to be at the Festival of Quilts in the UK in August.

Welcome to those of you who have just signed up to receive this newsletter, it is great to have you.

The video tutorials will be posted on my blog or can be viewed on my YouTube Channel. Thank you so much for enjoying these and some of you are leaving wonderful comments which encourage me to do more!

On the topic of video tutorials, I have plans for more but am also interested to hear of any suggestions for videos that you may have (no promises!).

Quilt Pattern ReView

Star Burst

Makes a quilt approx
60" square

This is a pieced quilt that would look great in a variety of colours. It would look fabulous draped over the couch or on the wall for a little extra decor, or just to use for a much needed nap!

Note: This pattern was originally released as a 6 part mystery in 2010.

The pattern for Star Burst is available to purchase and download on my website here.

In this video I show you how to sash between 5" squares, a fun way to show off all those delicious fabric squares! Of course, you could do this with any size square!

Travel with the GourmetQuilter!

Would you be interested in travelling as part of a small group with the GourmetQuilter?
We are looking for some feedback on this please!

Would you be interested in being part of a quilting oriented tour?

When would be a good time for you to travel? This year? Next year? When?

Is there somewhere in particular you would like to travel to? Such as a particular quilt show maybe? Where in the world would you like to go

I love to travel, don't you? and what could be better than travelling with people with similar interests? I have been chatting with a quilter who works in the travel industry and we thought we would ask you, the quilters, what you think. We have discussed a few places where there are quilt shows, at this stage primarily in the USA, such as Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, OR, or Paducah, KY, or Lancaster, PA....and the list goes on! Would you like a tour that included a quilt show and then a mooch around the surrounding area visiting quilt shops and other places of interest? or something more cultural? or what? We would love to hear from you with some suggestions. Please email with your ideas, thank you.

Back home at Toad Hall:

Otaki, NZ:

The shop is now looking clean!! I took the opportunity to have some new carpet put in, so yes, the room is really empty!! Now to sort out all the stock and put it all back together again, so exciting!

What's in the Box!

The mystery is off to a good start with registrants from all around the world! Come join the fun of solving this mystery. Here is the box and fabrics I have used.
