Belgium: Launch of the international campaign "Social protection for all"

In Belgium, the socialist mutual society Solidaris, an Education and Solidarity Network member, has launched an international campaign promoting social protection for all in partnership with CNCD – 11.11.11 member organisations (trade unions, mutual societies and NGOs). This two-year campaign will take place between 2015 and 2016.

According to ICMIF (International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation), the mutual and cooperative sector continued to be the fastest-growing part of the global insurance industry since the financial crisis. In 2013, the sector represented USD 1.26 trillion in premium income, 27.3% share of the global insurance market, 1.1 million people employed, and 915 million policyholders/members.

OTTAWA, 20 July 2015: You are invited to join us on the occasion of the 2015 Education and Solidarity Network General  Assembly to a day of meetings and discussion on the question of health and solidarity  at school.  We will  be using collective intelligence tools to assist our  meetings, sharing of information and the emergence of a common consciousness.
ACTION-RESEARCH: On 3 March, the Education and Solidarity Network took part in the annual meeting of Education International trade union "research coordinators". The Network asked trade unions to take part in an international action research initiative.
INTERVIEW: "It is difficult to understand social security and its components, particularly health insurance, education and retirement, due to its limited reach and complex mechanisms. MGEN : A diagnostic tool for the benefit of school pupils has been developed in France by teams at MGEN (Mutuelle Générale de l'Education Nationale). As a tool that encourages participation, it enables young people to become informed citizens and take control of their own health. With the help of the Education and Solidarity Network, MGEN intends to export the tool internationally. 
CIESS: On 3 March the Director of the Inter-American Centre for Social Security Studies, Dr. Leonel Antonio Flores Sosa, accompanied by members of his team came to Paris for an intensive working session with the secretariat  of the Network,  which the CIESS has been a member of since 2014.  The aim: to assess the current areas of work to which the CIESS is making a contribution, and trace out the areas to be developed for the next few years.
PASS: At the end of February 2015, the West Africa regional office of the Union Africaine de la Mutualité (UAM-AFRO) organised a conference on the role of mutual health insurance societies in the extension of health cover.  The MGEN President, Thierry Beaudet, went to Côte d’Ivoire to lend his support to the position of the African mutual health insurance movement.
