What's New from EBRI
Planned retirement and retirement plan type: Does the type of retirement plan you have make any difference between your planned and actual retirement?

Not really, according to recent EBRI research.

EBRI analysis shows that the gap between expected and actual retirement is generally very small between those with defined benefit (pension) plans and defined contribution (401(k)-type) plans. The study also found that people who have a retirement plan tend to retire closer to when they planned, compared with those without a plan.

Using data from the University of Michigan’s Health and Retirement Study (HRS), EBRI looked at longitudinal results (over time) for when older American male and female full-time workers (at least 50 years old) retired. For the cross-sectional comparisons, EBRI analyzed data from the 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012 survey years. HRS, which is sponsored by the National Institute on Aging, is the most comprehensive national survey of older Americans. MORE.
