UR Community: NSF I-Corps Site Training and Grant Program Applications Due April 20 at Noon
Got a technical business idea? Students at any level of study, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to apply to Cohort I of the National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps Site program at the University of Rochester. The program provides entrepreneurial training (two required workshops) and modest funding ($1,000 to $3,000 grant awards) to enable teams to transition their technical idea into the marketplace. Cohort I will take place during the 2015 fall semester. Application materials, including an Itemized Financial Plan on how the funds will be used, are due Monday, April 20 at noon via email to natalie.antal@rochester.edu. UR Hajim Undergrads: Enter Your Technical Business Plan by April 20
Full-time undergraduate engineering or applied sciences students are eligible to compete in the Charles and Janet Forbes Entrepreneurial Competition by submitting a plan for a technical business. Cash prizes will be awarded to top teams. Send business plans electronically to susanna.virgilio@rochester.edu by 4 p.m. Monday, April 20. Seeking advice from a seasoned entrepreneur? The final dates this year of the University of Rochester Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs) program will feature Michael Wohl ’89, managing partner of ClimateHedge Investments and Greenspace Capital and a serial entrepreneur, on Wednesday, April 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and Friday, May 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. The meeting location for both dates is 3-327 Carol Simon Hall (3rd floor). Falling Walls Competition: Sign Up by April 26
Three minutes and three slides are all it takes to earn an expenses paid trip to Berlin this November to present your research on a world stage. Any University grad student, post-doc, scientist or faculty member who is 35 years or younger can sign up by April 26 for a May 19 presentation event to select a UR representative to attend the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin in November. Local prizes will be awarded — $200 for third place, $300 for second place, and $500 for the winner, who will also be awarded an expenses paid trip to Berlin, where researchers from around the world share their ground-breaking ideas.
