Interpreter Short Course

First of its kind in Vietnam

We are so proud to announce the successful completion of the Interpreter Training Short Course for Healthcare (Speech Therapy), the first of its kind in Vietnam! Congratulations Ms Hân and Ms Simone in preparing and facilitating such a successful course.

We had 15 participants from Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, Hue and Hanoi: each with varied experience and backgrounds. During the two week course, participants were taught basic interpreting skills, foundation Speech Therapy concepts and knowledge, Speech Therapy terminology (Vietnamese and English), ethical considerations for interpreting in Healthcare, how to deal with challenging situations and practical experience.

As a further requirement of the course, participants will engage in a paid internship with Trinh Foundation Australia (TFA). Successful participants will then be offered ongoing part-time work with TFA. These skilled interpreters will have a vital role in interpreting for TFA activities and supporting the development of the Speech Therapy profession in Vietnam.

Thank you to all of the participants who showed commitment and dedication to their learning throughout the course. Thank you also to the graduates who assisted the training of the participants through teaching support and providing opportunities for practical experience: Mr Điền, Dr Thảo, Dr Thị Thanh, Ms Loan, Ms Thu and Ms Quyên. Thank you Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) for providing the means for the course to be established

National Tour

During January and February Dominique Weston dedicated her time working with our Speech Therapy graduates throughout Vietnam on her National Tour of clinical mentoring.

For over a month, she supported graduates in Ho Chi Minh City, Hue and Hanoi. Both Dominique and the graduates gained a great deal from this experience.
