The winter of 2015 has come and gone, its now time to go sailing!

A word from Head Coach Francois Hebert.
The 2015 winter was one for the books, but not quite for the right reasons.  Spring like conditions prevailed for most of the winter, while the mountain was pounded by a constant flow of Pineapple Express Weather systems.  The ice on Alta Lake broke on the 20th of February this year 1 1/2 months sooner than usual, this hasn't happened since the winter of 1981.
While the skiing was a not as good as usual, many switched to summer activities early and made the best of it. I was able to ski, mountain bike and sail all in the same day in February! How cool is that!  There aren't many places in the world where you can do all these activities in a day. That's why I choose to live in Whistler!

2015 is shaping up to be a good year for Whistler Sailing, we have made our move to the North side of the Hostel and we now have the use of 2 cabins! This move will improve the experience for members and students. We will have much more indoor space for teaching lessons on land with 2 classrooms, we will have a locker room and change room. We will also have dry indoor storage for all our sailing gear, a small work shop and a proper office. However this move also comes with challenges. We will not be able to use the lawn on the south side of the hostel at all to launch or rig boats this year. We will have to be creative to make space for all of our boats. The best solution is to get more docks to use for storing and launching boats, we currently do not have the funds to accomplish this in the short term therefore WSA will be actively fundraising this spring to buy materials required to build a dock.

May is shaping up to be a busy month.
