Public Library Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary
Petersburg Public Library celebrates its one year anniversary at its new location this week!

The City of Petersburg Public Library will be closing to the public at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28. The library will reopen for regular business hours (9 a.m.) on Wednesday, April 29.
A huge thank you to all the sponsors, participants and guests at the 3rd Annual Petersburg Earth Day for Kids Foundation Golf Tournament at Dogwood Trace Golf Course! It was a great event. A total of $9K was donated to various City initiatives like the Petersburg Public Library, Police Athletic League and the All America City Award. We look forward to another great event in 2016!

Congrats to the City's Director of Planning & Community Development, Michelle Peters! She will be honored with a Government/Public Servant Award from the Historic Petersburg Foundation at their Annual Membership meeting this weekend.

Michelle spearheaded the marker program designating all buildings in the City struck by artillery during the Siege of Petersburg.

Congrats to the Virginia State University's Women's Basketball Team on their CIAA Championship! A Resolution was presented to them Tuesday by Petersburg City Council.
Richard Bland's Men's Basketball Team was presented a Resolution from City Council for their recent accomplishments.
Congrats to Central Virginia Waste Management Authority on celebrating 25 years of service to the community.

Real Estate Tax Relief for Elderly or Permanently and Totally Disabled Persons are due Friday, May 1, 2015

Application forms for real estate tax relief for the elderly or permanently and totally disabled, must be filed with the Commissioner of the Revenue by Friday, May 1, 2015.
Income in the household cannot exceed $35,000 and assets cannot exceed $70,000.
 
Filing forms are also available on line at www.petersburgva.gov

​Juneteenth Festival 2015
is Sunday, June 21 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Pocahontas Island. The City of Petersburg's Department of Cultural Affairs, Arts and Tourism is looking for high qualityproducts merchandise , either handmade or unique and beautiful. Artisans and crafts people are highly encouraged to apply. Food booth (delete) vendors to provide a diverse menu of other high-quality food and beverage options.

Those who include vegetarian fare will be given priority. All vendor application are due to our office by May 31, 2015; Please also remember that all vendors must be registered and current with the City of Petersburg Commissioner of Revenue.  Food vendors will also need a permit from the Virginia department of Health.  Please call 804-733-2430 or email

Sample Ballot
Above is a sample ballot for the June 9 Democratic Party primary election. All polling places are open 6 a.m.to 7 p.m., polling location listed on their Voter ID card, and Photo ID is required.

Deadline to register to vote or make any changes in name or address is May 18, 2015.
Absentee voting begins Friday, April 24, 2015. Any questions, voters can call 733-8071.

Petersburg Farmer's Market

Tomorrow is Saturday! Join the City's Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to Noon! The market is on Joseph Jenkins Roberts Street under the Martin Luther King Bridge.

On Saturday, April 18 will have 13 producers. There will be tomato plants, herbs, cut flowers, potted plants and shrubs, early produce, meats, quail, duck, chicken eggs(brown & white) in addition goose eggs, whoopee pies, blueberry muffins, assorted cakes and cookies, and canned goods.
