NEW CME Learning Management System (LMS)

The CME office has a new website that will serve as the home for all of your continuing education needs.  The innovative website allows you to register for live and online (enduring) CME activities at Des Moines University. Your portfolio tracks the CME activities that you complete and allows you to print transcripts or certificates of attendance at your convenience. Featured CME events and an activity calendar can be found on the homepage; and the searchable catalog (https://cme.dmu.edu/courses) allows you to find activities that are specific to a certain topic, credit type, course format, and much more!

If you have not already, the CME department is requesting one minute of your time to create your account.

https://cme.dmu.edu/user/register

It is imperative that your “profession” and “credentials” be accurate when registering your account. If a listed profession isn’t applicable to you, please select “other”.

If you attended a CME activity at DMU prior to March 1, 2015, those activities will be added to your portfolio. We anticipate this process to be complete by January 2016. We truly appreciate your patience as your portfolio is being updated.

STUDENTS! Although you may not require continuing education credits at this moment, registering in this system will still provide a professional benefit to you! Keeping an accurate CME account will document your commitment to life-long learning by tracking your involvement in activities such as the DMU Research Symposium, DMU Clinic Grand Rounds, IPTA Southwest District Meeting, Friday Research Seminar Series, and much more! Your DMU CME transcript will stay with you even after graduation and is something that can be used when applying to residencies, clinical rotations, and future positions in healthcare.

Not only does this new LMS track activities hosted by DMU, you are also able to upload external credits so you have one convenient location for all of your CME tracking needs. To upload external credits, login to your profile and select the “my account” link in the top-right of the screen. A set of tabs will appear in the middle of the screen, select “my activities” and then subsequently “external credits”. You will be able to add external activities and upload your various certificates so that all of your continuing education can be printed from one place.

As you navigate through the website, feel free to provide feedback to the CME office by emailing cme@dmu.edu.

Enduring Materials Library: A cool new feature of the LMS

Earning CME credit is now even easier! Our new LMS boasts an online library of enduring continuing education materials. Visit the course catalog and search using the “enduring” format. This catalog will be updated regularly, so check back frequently for additional courses. Below are descriptions of some of the opportunities that are currently available.

Autism
Kara Thompson, D.O., Des Moines University
1.0 hour - AOA Category 1-B credit and AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art. Autism appears to have its roots in very early brain development. However, the most obvious signs of autism and symptoms of autism tend to emerge between two and three years of age. Learn More
