Being Disciples, Making Disciples in the Name of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World
Dear Holston View Family,
As a United Methodist Church we are part of a connectional and itinerating system.  In short, this means that there is nothing that one church has that another church can’t ask to borrow.  We share ministry, resources, and even pastors.  That being said, and wishing there was a less formal way to communicate this, I am scheduled to be appointed to Dublin United Methodist Church starting in July of this year.  My last Sunday at Holston View will be June 7, though I will be available for pastoral care through mid-June.  During this transition our congregational care team and gifted preachers from within our own congregation will be leading the church in typical Acts fashion: the priesthood of all believers.

It is with obvious sadness that we leave, but we also ask that you would celebrate and pray with us as we move to Dublin, Virginia.  As only God could work it out, Dublin United Methodist Church is just four miles south of my parents’ home and  our parsonage is walking distance from my sister and brother-in-law.  Never in my wildest dreams or hopes did I see the potential for us to be that close to my family again.

Rev. Wayne Hedrick is scheduled to be appointed to Holston View United Methodist.  He will move in on June 24, and his first Sunday in the pulpit will be July 5.  Our Staff Parish Relationship Team and I have had an opportunity to meet with Wayne and wife Sandra.  Wayne is going to be a wonderful fit for Holston View, and if you welcome and love him half-as-much as you did me and my family, he will be overwhelmed and encouraged by what he finds here.

There are many more details to share over the coming weeks, but I specifically ask you to do two things:
1-Pray for Rev. Wayne Hedrick and his wife Sandra as they make this transition to Holston View.  Transitions like this are a tender time for the families involved and the congregation.
2-Pray for me and my family as we make a transition to Dublin United Methodist and reconnect with family and friends.

Words cannot express the strange mix of sadness and excitement that my family and I feel, or my deep gratitude and appreciation for the journey of being your pastor.

In Christian Love,
Preacher Don
