How do I abide in Christ?

Last week we started our exploration of the meaning of what some theologians call our “union with Christ.” This terminology is meant to capture the essence of what the Christian life is all about – new life in Jesus Christ! Christianity is essentially built on two mutually related realities: Christ dying for us and Christ reigning in us. To neglect or downplay either one of those distinctions brings disastrous results. For those who only focus on the fact that “Christ died for us” as a historical fact can result in a faith that becomes overly intellectualized and spiritually arid and dry. On the other hand, those who focus only on the reality of “Christ reigning in us” can result in a faith that is based on emotions and experiences but has very little substance or depth.
