The Fathering Project is led by Professor Bruce Robinson, the 2013 Western Australian of the year, to help men be better dads. Bruce who is a respiratory physician analysed the regrets that patients often expressed when they did not have long to live. He found that they stated unanimously the following:

  • They did not spend enough time with their kids
  • They spent too much time at work
  • They wished someone could have helped them back then

Bruce used this feedback as the drive to begin researching fatherhood, spending hours interviewing men and kids. This resulted in a deep understanding of fatherhood which led to a number of book publications and the creation of The Fathering Project.

Bruce’s research showed that the most powerful missing force in preventing problems that adolescents have today is a strong father figure. His research discovered the significant impact that an effective father figure can have on an entire life.

I had the privilege to hear Bruce speak at a conference in 2014. You can find out more about The Fathering Project at the following website: thefatheringproject.org

When was the last time you took time out, unplugged from modern technology and spent quality time with your child?

As part of The Fathering Project, The Big Campout offers fathers and father figures the chance to spend quality one-on-one time with their child in a unique campout experience at WA’s premier cricket ground, the WACA and camp under the stars.

The Big Campout will be held Saturday the 16th May, 2015. Gates will open at 4:00pm on the Saturday (May 16) and the event will end 10:00am on the Sunday (May 17).

The event offers a unique camping opportunity for fathers and children to campout on the WACA. Participants are encouraged to bring their favourite activities and games to play, as you would on a traditional camping adventure. A BBQ dinner and breakfast will be provided along with Saturday night entertainment. You need to bring your e-Ticket, a small tent, mattress, sleeping bags/sheets, pillows, a torch and camping chairs (if desired). A complete list of what to bring and what not to bring is available on our website, click here
