Infections are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in nursing homes with 3.8 million healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) occurring annually, contributing to nearly 400,000 deaths and as much as $2 billion in hospitalization costs. Among these infections are various multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO) infections, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) infections.  more....

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner,
National Institute of Mental Health

Chana Engel researches bipolar and other mood disorders in children and adolescents at the Intramural Program of the National Institute of Mental Health.  The first NP to work in the bipolar spectrum disorder section, she serves as a research co-investigator, recruiting and screening patients, evaluating their symptoms, and providing clinical care for inpatients.
