Bike Month 2015 is here! What better way to kick it off than a Council proclamation declaring May 14, 2015 Oakland's 22nd Annual Bike to Work Day, and officially supporting increased safe bike infrastructure around Oakland? Please show up in force the evening of May 5 when Councilmember Lynette Gibson McElhaney makes the proclamation at the beginning of the City Council Meeting! The meeting starts at 5:30 in the Council Chambers at Oakland City Hall, Council Chambers are located on the third floor.
We will be cruising for dinner after the proclamation and photos, we hope to see you at this exciting event! RSVP here, don't forget to invite your friends and neighbors!!
Bike to Work Day 2015 is Thursday May 14th! With 24 Energizer Stations around Oakland you're sure to cruise by one on your morning commute. We will be hosting the largest Energizer Station with the City of Oakland at Frank Ogawa Plaza from 7 to 9 AM. There will be a free pancake breakfast, a BikeShare demo, raffle/giveaways, free valet bike parking, free bicycle safety checks and tune-ups, a transportation fair, and much more! Roll by and help us make this the largest Bike to Work Day celebration yet!
Interested in chatting bikes and bicycling issues, and rolling into the plaza with your local Councilmember and Mayor? We are organizing pedalpools from every district so that you can do just that! Rides depart from various locations on May 14th between 7 and 7:30 AM (depending on district). Event information can be found here.
If you're more of a late riser, come wrap up Bike To Work Day with local bites and brew at The Half Orange at the Fruitvale BART Plaza, 3pm to 7pm.
We're less that a month away from Love Our Neighborhood Day, the first of WOBO's Oaklavia Open Streets series on Saturday, May 30th! And what a way to cap off Bike Month.
From 11am to 4pm, San Pablo Avenue will be closed to traffic and car-free from Ashby to Stanford, about a mile-long stretch, so that people can walk, bike, skate, dance, and play in the open street, your street.
If you want to host your own activity on the route, or showcase your awesome organization, tell us how here.

Women of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels gathered together for WOBO’s Ride Like A Girl workshop to share experiences, show off their kickstands and learn how to feel safe and confident riding a bike on the streets of Oakland.
“I feel very exposed on a bicycle,” said Emily, an Oakland resident on a mission to adopt a bicycling lifestyle.
The girls got an Urban Cycling 101 crash course from Bonnie Whemann, a bike education instructor with Bike East Bay; highlighting the importance of being both visible and predictable to drivers and other cyclists.
“I want women on bikes to know that they are just as much a part of the road traffic as car drivers and not to be intimidated to ride into unsafe places like over broken glass and too close to car doors,” said Bonnie.
Next, the ladies took to the streets! With Bonnie in the lead, the group of gals set out with confidence on their wheels to test their skills on the streets of Oakland.
Have you wondered about the tiny bike symbols flanked by long white lines on the street at many of the stoplights in Oakland? What the heck are these for?
These little guys are your traffic signal trippers, my biking friends. Just line up your tires on the long white lines and you’ll be detected the same as a car, green light here you come!
We need your help! Great things happen in the biking/walking community in Oakland everyday and we want to know about it. Send any fun, interesting or juicy tidbits our way and we'll share it with the world!
