Open-air reading rooms return to New York City streets next week! We begin May 8 on a Brooklyn plaza and then shoot over to the stunning FDR Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island. Thereafter, we've got 90+ deployments planned and more requests coming in daily. See our schedule.
Other news:
A new partnership with NYC Parks will bring our pop-up reading rooms to parks identified in the Mayor’s Community Parks Initiative. Thanks to Leaves of Grass Fund for support. Other special Uni initiatives are underway at plazas and play streets.
A little bit of Sesame Street is in the Uni! Thanks to Sesame Workshop for a terrific donation of books. Other 2015 book donors include HarperCollins, Laurie Dornbrand, Sarah Crichton and Jan Holmquist.
During the winter, we make portable reading room kits for others. The DC Public Library now has their own Uni portable reading room which is out and about in the nation's capitol.
Finally, The Uni Project will help create NYC's first roving neighborhood history museum! Working with SoHo native and archivist Yukie Ohta, we'll build a cart to help share SoHo’s history right where people gather on the neighborhood's busy, retail-oriented streets. Pop-up learning. Help launch this project now on Kickstarter.
Lots more is in the works. Get a glimpse of what's to come in this recent interview with Leslie.
Want to help us grow? We're looking for corporate and individual sponsors for our 2015 season to help us reach deep into NYC neighborhoods. Or purchase a book from our wish-list and celebrate Independent Bookstore Day! Thanks everyone.
