Check out the Friends Second Saturday Sales coming up on May 9 and June 13! These sales are offered each month from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The first hour is open to members only. Not a Friends member? Memberships  are very affordable and available on our website, at the door on the day of the sale or pick up a membership form at the Welcome Desk the next time you visit the Bloomfield Township Public Library.

Myers Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted

Each year the Library Board of Trustees awards funds to encourage and support the post-secondary education of past or present employees of Bloomfield Township Public Library, or persons who have some relationship with the Library. A total amount of at least $500 will be awarded to one or more scholarship applicants to use for books, tuition or other relevant expenses to assist in working toward an associate, bachelor, or graduate degree, or for pursuit of other higher education. 

The deadline for entry is June 1, 2015.  Scholarship guidelines and application forms are available at the Library's Welcome Desk and on the Library website at www.btpl.org.


Escape the Ordinary!  Summer Reading Takes a Heroic Theme
June 13 - August 8, 2015


Starting in June, summer reading programs are soaring into the Bloomfield Township Public Library!  Adults, teens, and kids are challenged to take reading to new heights during a superhero-themed summer of reading.  Heroic programs await to whisk you away from the ordinary.  A super storywalk will highlight the heroes all around us. Concerts and other after-hours events will celebrate favorite superhero stories.  Don't let this summer fly by without reading!

Superhero Training Academy Summer Reading Kick-off for Youth
Leap into great stories and adventures.   Your summer of adventure begins on Saturday, June 13, 1-3 p.m., where in addition to registering for the Summer Reading Program, you just might learn to leap tall buildings in a single bound!   Reach your personal reading goal by August 8 and enter a drawing for a terrific grand prize.   Activities and crafts for all ages.  No registration required for kick-off event.

Super Strawberry Social Summer Reading Kick-off for Adults & Teens
From comic book and fantasy characters to extraordinary everyday heroes, we invite you to escape the ordinary this summer and be a superhero reader!  Join us on the Adult Services Terrace on Monday, June 15 from 6-8 p.m. for a Super Strawberry Social Summer Reading Kick-off, and get your summer reading started. Adults and teens are welcome to sign up for summer reading, pick up a bingo card and other summer reading essentials, and enjoy a special “super food” treat.  All may register for our reading program, but prizes are limited to Bloomfield Township residents only.  No registration required for kick-off event.

Drive-up Materials Return Not Available Memorial Day Weekend

The Library parking lot will be closed from late Saturday, May 23 through late Sunday, May 24 for repairs, weather permitting.  No items will be due that day.

Gardening Programs with English Gardens:
ABC’s of Growing Herbs: Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m.
Fairy and Miniature Gardens: Monday, June 22 at 7 p.m. Registration is required for both programs.         
 
Fantastic Fest:  Superheroes, Villains, & Beyond
Register for our Fantastic Fest on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Fantastic Fest will be a daylong festival of comic books, science fiction and fantasy characters. Great speakers, movies, games, costume contests, prizes and much more!
 
Everyone’s Reading The Inner Circle
May 11 – June 22
Now in its 14th year, the metro Detroit area’s community reading program returns with a political thriller by writer Brad Meltzer.  Meltzer’s creative output includes everything from popular fiction to children’s books, history, and outstanding comic books, making him a writing superhero!
 
You can hear Brad Meltzer speak about his work and his experiences as a writer on Monday, June 22, at 2 p.m. in Rochester Hills and at 7 p.m. in West Bloomfield.  Tickets are free but limited.  More information, including how to obtain tickets, will be available starting May 11.
 
Ongoing programs, such as writers’ groups, our Knit ‘n Stitch Circle and Coffee and Conversation for seniors are offered every month. For a complete program schedule and more information visit our website.

 

Youth Services

Read to Seed
On Thursday, June 18, 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m., young gardeners of all abilities are invited to help Bowers School Farm plant a veggie garden on the Youth Terrace!  Participants will then choose what week(s) they would like to sign up to be the “gardeners of the week,” and help keep our plants watered and weed free throughout the summer.  A harvest party will follow later this summer. Inclusive for ages 6-12.  Registration begins May 26.
 
Water Safety
Be safe around water!  Join us on Monday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m., to learn water safety tips and hear fun water stories with SafeSplash Swim School.  For families of all ages.
 
Superhero Olympics
Can you leap over tall buildings in a single bound?  Do you have what it takes to win a gold medal?  Come to the Superhero Olympics on Wednesday, June 24 at 2 p.m., to find out! Ages 6-10.
 
The Amazing Race: Library Edition
Looking for adventure?  Join us on Tuesday, June 30 from 2-3:30 p.m. for our 4th annual Library Scavenger Hunt and search for hidden treasures throughout the Youth Room. Ages 8 – 12.  Registration begins June 8.

The Library continues to offer a variety of hands-on computer classes, such as Introduction to Social Networking and Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint.
