Grand Knight Report
What's Going On in the Month of May
|
|
Brothers,
On Sunday, May 3, 2015, our Council will have a Corporate Communion Mass at the 10:30am service. Worthy Fr. Frank is planning to conduct the service. All Knights and their families are invited to sit together in a designated area and I would like for all Knights to wear their council polo shirts.
Following the mass, all Knights and their families are invited over to the Parish Center for fellowship and a delicious brunch.
Also on May 3rd following the 7:30, 9 & 10:30am masses, our council will be setting up and manning two tables in an effort to recruit some parishioners into the Knights. Brother Joe Cox will be coordinating this effort, so be prepared to help out.
Brothers, please attend tomorrow for May 3rd! I would like to have every Knight in our council participate.
Upcoming Calendar of events –
o Due to some scheduling conflicts, the May Council Meeting date is moved to Tuesday, May 12th. Same place, same time.
o Our next Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for May 17th.
o The 30th Annual St Bonaventure Golf Tournament is on Saturday, May 16 at Bonaventure Country Club on Bonaventure Blvd in Weston.
If you don't golf, please offer to help out with the grill at the pre-golf luncheon or volunteer at Deacon Art's 19th Hole serving finger food and beverages.
Fraternally,
Jude Hodges

Corporate Communion Mass
|
|
Brother Knights,
On Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the 10:30 am Mass, St. Bonaventure Council No. 12240 will conduct a Corporate Communion Mass ("CCM"). If you have never before attended a CCM you will not want to miss out on this great experience and if you have been to one in the past, you will know that we have not had one in many years. The CCM is conducted during a regular Mass, what makes it so special is that all the Knights and their families sit together, the Color Corp of the 4th Degree leads the processional up the center aisle at the opening of Mass and leads them back out at the conclusion. Knights and their families typically wear their council shirts and other items to show solidarity. After the Mass a brunch is served in the Parish Hall. This May 3rd, we will also be conducting a membership drive after all Masses, if you can help out by standing at a table before or after a Mass to hand out literature and answer questions, it would help quite a bit. Remember to wear your council shirt and K of C pin.
Fraternally,

KofC Field Agent Report
Helping Our Families Prepare
|
|
|
Worthy Brothers,
Tempus fugit memento mori – times flies, remember death.
The phrase, we are told, is to remind us to be conscious of our own mortality and to plan accordingly. As Catholics, we keep death always in the front of our minds because it is the gateway to paradise, but also because we want to be sure that we are preparing accordingly and living just lives, conquering sin and living for God, so that we may live with Him after death.
But death is not always easy to think about. While we live with Christian hope, we know that our death also means sadness and trial for those we love. We know that we will leave a void, and, depending on the circumstances of our own death, we may even leave loose ends.
But by thinking about the unthinkable, and planning for the inevitable, we may be able to reduce those trials and tie up some of those loose ends.
That’s why we are excited to introduce the Knights of Columbus Personal Planning Workbook.
The Knights of Columbus Personal Planning Workbook is a no-cost tool available from me to you.
The thirty-four page book is a comprehensive planning guide that will enable you to record personal information, identify personal wishes, and supplement legal documents.
With the Knights of Columbus Personal Planning Workbook, you can:
- List medical information
- Identify your long-term care instructions and wishes
- Identify the location of records, documents, accounts, password, and other important concerns
- Identify charitable gifts
- Supplement your will with instructions and information on the distribution of your estate, as well as information on guardians, executors, and power of attorney
- Express your wishes for your funeral service, including identifying readings, lectors, gift bearers, pall bearers, and fraternal or military organization involvement
- Prepare a Survivors’ Action Items and Concerns listing for the settlement of your estate and the execution of your last wishes
- Establish a list of people to notify
- Record information on life insurance policies and other benefits
- Express your wishes for an obituary
- Write a letter expressing your wishes to your pastor
The Knights of Columbus Personal Planning Workbook may not be the most enjoyable workbook you have ever filled out, but may be the most impactful.
In a fast-paced digital age like ours, there are so many more things to plan for and to record, and so much less time in which to do it. The Knights of Columbus Personal Planning Workbook is and easy and effective way to gather your thoughts, details, data, and wishes for the benefit of your loved ones.
This great resource is another extension of our founding mission, set forth by Father Michael J. McGivney, of protecting Catholic families.
As pointed as it may seem, tempus fugit memento mori reminds us that we – with certainty – will die, but that we may very well not – with certainty – know when.
So why not spend a few minutes preparing for the inevitable?
You’ll have the comfort of knowing that you did the right thing, and the assurance that, when that time does come, you will have made a very difficult time just a little bit easier for the ones you love.

God bless!

April 24-26th: Florida State Columbiette's 37th Annual Convention - a great time reuniting with all our sisters in Orlando.
It was another very successful Convention and election. Together as a whole, Columbiettes raised $260,807.71 for Charities. We all do make a difference together!
Theresa and I as delegates had to vote for our new Officers, Delegates.
The Memorial Service for our deceased Columbiettes was beautifully represented with each sister dedicating a Star in their honor and May Crowning with Father Charles Viviano.
We held a Business Session, Installation of Officers & Mass, Presidential Reception, "Mardi Gras Carnival Dinner, and "An Evening in Paris" Banquet. I was happy to draw Dale Zgurzynski, our Past State President's name in winning 1st prize in the Regina Harley's 300 Club Raffle. (Prize was $300)
We are excited that the new Florida State President is Lucille Meyers and that she may have our next Convention here in South Florida. We look forward to bringing back and sharing all our new ideas and information with our sisters here and hope to get many of them at our next convention.

If you are interested in our Columbiette Auxiliary, work with the Knights of Columbus Council with which it is affiliated; promote the spiritual, social, intellectual and economic welfare of its members, please contact Julia Brown, Membership Chairman at (954)472-4275 or Camille Berringer at (954) 846-7473.
All Catholic women, 17 years of age or older may join. We are not limited to relatives of the Knights of Columbus. Each candidate is sponsored by a Columbiette, Knight or a member of the Clergy. We have two Degrees. A First Degree admits us to membership in the Columbiette family. A Major Degree member is considered a full fledged participating member and is privileged to hold an office in the Order.
The Columbiettes is operating on four levels: Supreme, State, Chapter and Auxiliary. Each Auxiliary is affiliated with a Council and each Council must approve of the formation of its own Auxiliary.
We have annual Conventions at both the State and Supreme level. At the State Convention all State Auxiliaries are represented. At the Annual Supreme Convention, elected delegates are sent to represent each State. Territories are represented by their respective Deputies. The Columbiettes are also the official sponsor of the Squirettes of Mary, a youth program for young ladies ages 10 – 17. This is similar to the Knights of Columbus’ Squire youth organization.
The Honorable Margaret Mary Josephine Mangan (MMJM) was elected as the first Supreme President. Today this organization has grown and is recognized as one of the most outstanding groups of dedicated Catholic women. We strive to meet our requirements to receive the MMJM Award yearly and are proud to say we have received 11 awards in succession.

Dear Brother Knights,
Sunday, April 26 we celebrated Good Shepherd Sunday and in the Gospel of John, Jesus pointed out to the Scribes and the Pharisees that the Good Shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. He is not a hireling. His commitment to his sheep is permanent. They hear his voice and follow Him. On Sunday May 3, we will have Communion Sunday for our Brother Knights and we will have tables out in front of the church to recruit future knights. We are Knights of Columbus because we hear the voice of Jesus, Our Good Shepherd. Let us pray for the grace to follow his voice. If we do it, we will fulfill the will of our Heavenly Father and inspire other men in our parish to become brother knights.
Gratefully,
Fr. Frank
