Please Help Nepal

Or, please consider sending help for Nepal. Pictured above are some photos from our initial relief work in Gorkha District a few weeks ago. Kathmandu has a lot more people and also a lot more relief workers; but few people are getting help in rural areas like Gorkha, the epicenter of the big quake last month. Even the earthquakes just yesterday blocked a major road from the capital to Gorkha; so access is difficult. Here's a Bangkok Post article that has a brief description of yesterday's earthquakes.

I know most of my friends in the West are occupied with other issues back home, or just worried about making ends meet. I totally understand how busy life in the States can be for everyone. But for those of you who can take the time to pray for the people of Nepal, please read on. Global Hope initially sent $2,000 to our local contact, who used it to buy tents and food. There are many stages in relief work, but we're still focusing on helping people find shelter and food; some specialized groups are working to contain to outbreaks of cholera. Relief work will continue for at least a year or more through different stages.

Our next transfer to our contact this week will be $5,000. These are very small sums for relief work, but we're a young and small NGO run by volunteers with some office staff. We're just trying to do something to help, and I believe many of you can make a significant contribution to our relief work; about 95% of your donations will actually end up in Nepal because of the low cost of our volunteers. We were able to build a safe high school building in the island of Tacloban in the Philippines last year after Hurricane Yolanda only because of a donation of a million dollars. So, we pray for some major donations for Nepal as well, but for now we're taking things step by step. Here are more photos of our relief work and details (in Korean) on our Global Hope site. From my supporters and FB friends only one person has pledged to help so far, a woman who is not a believer.

I'm scheduled to visit Nepal on June 9 for a week. I just got back from Yangon, and have 2 mission teams coming in a row starting tomorrow.
