d.tech weekly update 5.4.15

A Starry Night: the first ever d.tech spring formal
Dear d.tech families,

It is hard to believe that there are only 19 school days left in the year.  It has been a year like none of us will ever experience again, which in some ways is positive but in many ways we will miss much of what has made this year special.  But before we wax nostalgic, keep in mind that May is chock full of events.  We started the month with our spring formal, pictured above, and will wrap it up with a camping trip.  Something for everyone.  This week's newsletter is full of important upcoming dates, so please have your calendar nearby while reading.  I look forward to continuing to see everyone at all of these fun activities.
Also in the spirit of wrapping things up, updated semester one grades will be available by the end of the week.  Students are furiously turning in work to avoid summer school and teachers are grading as quickly as possible, but please be aware that there is at least a one week turn around time on student work.
Also we want to know how your Health and Wellness design solutions are going! Parents and families, please fill out this brief survey to let us know how your designs have helped developed healthy habits at home.

Thanks for all of your support.
best,
Ken

Concurrent Enrollment Info Session (Skyline College):
There will be an info session held on May 4th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Mills cafeteria regarding concurrent enrollment.  This session will focus on Skyline College.  Concurrent enrollment allows students to simultaneously earn high school and college credit by taking classes at a community college.  The info session will give more details about concurrent enrollment and the registration process.    We strongly encourage students to further their world language studies through concurrent enrollment.

d.tech at the Maker Faire, Field Trip Friday May 15th
Not only will d.tech have a booth at the
Maker Faire, but we are also taking an all-school field trip on Friday May 15th. Students will report to school by 8:30 and then we will take the 8:48 Caltrain from Millbrae to Hillsdale.   We will walk from the Hillsdale station to the Maker Faire and then take the 12:59 Caltrain from Hillsdale, arriving in Millbrae at 1:15. Staff members will accompany students to Millbrae, while other staff will stay at the Maker Faire.  Students are welcome to stay at the Maker Faire the remainder of the day with parent permission, but please note they will no longer be supervised after 1:00.  Tickets to the Maker Faire are $5.00 each, and a round-trip Caltrain ticket is $6.50.  Students can turn money into Mr. McAndrew in the front office.  We will be taking a count for the number of Caltrain tickets needed on Monday, May 4th.  We would also love to have at least six parent volunteers to help chaperone as well.

Camping trip - May 27-29
The planning for our school camping trip is coming along - thanks to a great Camping Design Challenge crew of d.tech students! We are excited about ending the school year with this event. We will depart school at 2:00 on Wednesday, May 27th and return around 2:00 Friday May 29th (our last day of school). Staff will be present throughout the trip.

Thank you to parents who have already volunteered to drive students/equipment and to those who have offered to chaperone the trip. We could use a few more volunteers. If you're available, please complete the survey (if you didn't already) or contact Christy at cknott@dtechhs.org directly. Thanks!

Summer Tech Plans
All students will check in their Chromebooks prior to leaving for the camping trip.  We will then check out the Chromebooks to students who are participating in summer school.  Students who do not attend summer school will get their Chromebooks when they return to school in August.

School Calendar:
Here is link to a draft of the school calendar.  It is still pending final board approval, but we do not anticipate any major changes.  The staff felt it was important to add instructional days so that students can extend their learning without feeling that they are falling behind.

Continue below for more info and reminders! Have a great week.
