We began the process for hiring new staff for next year this week.  We have had some amazing applicants – it’s going to be very difficult to decide.  Next week several applicants will come to school to teach a guest lesson.  Our goal is to offer jobs by the end of next week.  We will announce our decisions as soon as teacher contracts are officially signed.  Please pray for the hiring committee and the important work they are doing.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to Our AMAZING St. Mary's Teachers!
We have had MANY students and teachers out these past few weeks with the flu.  Please help us remind your children to wash their hands often or use hand sanitizer that is in the classrooms.
We are looking to update our Parent/Student testimonials for 2015-2016.  If you'd like to write a testimonial for the school please click on the link: http://goo.gl/forms/6h5Xfc8by5
Trinity starts for school when the hour hand of the watch is on 9 and the minute hand on 12. By the time she reaches her school, the minute hand turns by 210°. At what time does she reach her school?
Kindergarten: We had a good week, attendance much better than last week--We worked with the letter Qq this week.  We are still working with addition and subtraction in math and we celebrated Allison Albrecht's Wonderful Week--with the highlight being a tour of the "Dairy", Awesome!

Grade 1: This week we read the story "Whistle for Willie" and worked with words that have -au, -aw-, augh and -al.  We also worked with pronouns.  We have started a new unit in math and are working with measuring with inches.

Grade 2: We had a great trip to Heritage Days in Montevideo.  Getting to tour the Historic Chippewa Village with costumed guides was very informative and fun!  We also got to participate in a class where we learned about blacksmithing, fur trading, the spinning wheel, wheat weaving, folk dance or a one room school house.  It was wonderful to have so many parents and grandparents join us for the day.

Grade 3: This week the third graders worked with measurement equivalencies and fractions, customary and metric units of Mass, and read temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius on a thermometer.  We celebrated Gabby’s birthday on Monday and took the Math portion of our NWEA test on Tuesday afternoon.  We are excited for Miles who traveled to Louisiana to attend a gala with his family that honored his Grandmother, Kathleen Blanco, who was named a Louisiana Legend for her twenty four years of public service including being Governor during the tough times after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  We wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday!

Grade 4: This week in math we are working on probability. We also talked about personal safety and keeping ourselves safe in a community. As we are reading our novel "Holes" we are working on different literary skills. This week we are focusing on cause and effect and looking at all of the examples of irony in this book.

Grade 5: The fifth graders have been enjoying our reading theme this week, tall tales. We read about Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, and several others. In math, we began working on solving equations. The 4-6 English classes are also writing an informative research report on a travel destination of their choice.

Grade 6: This week we continued our NWEA testing and took the math test. I was so happy with the students' scores. All scores went up from the last time they had been tested. The students had a lot of fun things to do this week including a field trip and orientation at the high school. The field trip on Thursday had the students learning about conservation topics at Bananza. They got to see snakes, fish, salamanders, craw fish, and turtles. They also were able to do some hiking around the area, up some really big hills. Friday the sixth graders went to the High School for orientation. They were able to see some of the classrooms they'll be in, where their lockers will be, and meet some of the teachers.
