Website Tracks User-reported Road Incidents

A Canadian website hopes to make biking safer through better data collection. Using GIS and statistics to identify hot spots of cycling safety, risk, and crime, BikeMaps.org provides cyclists with valuable route-planning information and can potentially house a rich archive of bike-car incidents that could influence public policy decisions.

According to their website, only about 30% of bike collision data is collected and there is no centralized reporting system. The team is interested in analyzing the data to determine factors that influence cycling safety.

As more hazard data is logged, they intend to develop a system of alerting the various municipalities. Reports are made by verified users who sign up for an account with the website.

Columbus Development Map

In conjunction with ColumbusUnderground.com, CURA has developed a web application to showcase urban development projects in and around Columbus. The web app, compiled with information and photos provided by Columbus Underground, will be an evolving project to track current construction projects that will contribute to Columbus’ urban redevelopment.

Due to the dynamic nature of development and the fluidity of project details throughout the approval phase, information will be updated as quickly as it can be provided. CURA will accept public feedback, comments, and additional information on projects in the city. While serving as an effective barometer of current urban economic development, the Columbus Development Story Map will also allow opportunities for continued analysis of development patterns in the city.  The data collected from the project will be archived and available for research, possibly to identify trends in mixed-use, commercial, and residential construction.

To keep the app as current as possible, please contact CURA with information, edits, or comments: cura@osu.edu.
