Verizon and SVG team up to Advance Precision Agriculture

LOS GATOS, CA  â€“  Verizon and SVG Partners announced today that they are entering into a strategic business relationship designed to enhance SVG’s Thrive Accelerator mentorship and investment program, which brings together the world’s leading agriculture companies and technology companies to transform agriculture.

In addition, Verizon will become a strategic partner in the upcoming Forbes Reinventing America: The AgTech Summit, which will tackle some of the world’s most critical challenges in agriculture. Co-hosted by SVG Partners, the invitation-only event will be held July 8–9 in Salinas, Calif.

As the world’s demand for food increases due to population growth, the SVG/Verizon collaboration aims to disrupt the farm-to-fork movement by giving rise to innovative ideas and Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled technologies designed to help make farming “smart.”

"The intersection of technology and agriculture will help solve the exploding food production challenge our world faces, as well as deliver investment opportunities in the twenty-first century," said John Hartnett, CEO of SVG Partners. "We are thrilled to work with Verizon in leading change to the burgeoning field of AgTech. We further welcome its strategic involvement with Forbes Reinventing America: The AgTech Summit."

By tapping into Verizon’s IoT agriculture ecosystem, farmers can improve virtually every stage of production, including crop planting, soil-monitoring, equipment tracking and fuel usage — all powered by Verizon’s nationwide wireless network and machine-to-machine management platform.

“We look forward to collaborating with SVG Partners not only to help the agricultural industry transform its operations, but to also help fuel societal innovation more broadly,” said Mark Bartolomeo, vice president IoT Connected Solutions at Verizon. “IoT-enabled technologies, combined with new and ongoing strategic relationships across the ecosystem, can help increase agricultural output, processes and efficiency."

Verizon joins other leading agriculture organizations in SVG's and Forbes Thrive Accelerator, including:
  • Western Growers Association
  • Dole Food Company
  • Taylor Farms
  • Smith Group
  • Mann Packing
  • Rocket Farms
  • Chiquita
As part of the AgTech Summit, Verizon will present and judge at Thrive Accelerator's Seed Camp. Seed Camp and Thrive Accelerator allow innovators in the agriculture technology market to present their ideas to high-profile technology and agriculture leaders. Seed Camp and Thrive Accelerator participants have the opportunity to receive funding and exclusive introductions within target market segments to further their growth.
