Accelerating your success with teen science cafés

EXCITING NEW WEBSITE FEATURES

Café Tuesday
Each week we will post a new question to our Café Tuesday Forum to generate ideas, discussion, and communication. These are intended to be a very quick and easy way for you to get ideas, find solutions, and draw from what others in the Network are doing. Please take just a minute to visit the forum and answer the question each week!

New Forums
As a result of our Member Workshop in January, several new private forums were created to discuss specific topics. Subjects currently include Cross Node Research and Virtual Café Implementation. If you have a topic to discuss and you'd like us to create a separate forum for it, please let us know. The TSCN Forums are now private, thus only accessible to our Members through login. Be sure you are signed in and visit the Forum to participate in the conversations today!

Cool Cafés
We have a new feature on the website that allows Members or teen leaders to share a brief summary of recent cafés to show the world the cool science that teens are experiencing all across our growing Network. We have made this process easy by creating a quick form to complete at http://teensciencecafe.org/resources/cool-cafes-form-entry/. We know that most sites have finished their Café series for the season, but we would welcome submissions covering the best of the past season and earlier. Share your great ideas so that others may repeat them! Remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Social Media Survey
Everyone in the TSCN is talking on social media of some sort, but connecting and supporting each other's efforts has been a bit of a challenge. Complete this short  survey of your Cafés social media use so we can create a stronger social media network!

Trivia Nights
Katey Ahmann shares great ideas regarding Trivia Nights as Science Cafés at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in her new blog post. These quizzes are NOT boring!

Make Social Media Work for You
Nicole Gugliucci, aka the NoisyAstonomer, offers her tips on social media in the blog Making Social Media Work for You. Most important is knowing why you want to use social media. Read more...

Coming in May - The Spotlight
The Showcase area of teensciencecafe.org will soon host our Member Spotlight featuring a brief interview of one of our Members hailing from all over the world! Yes, we now have new Members starting programs in England and Singapore!
EVALUATING YOUR TEEN SCIENCE CAFÉ

In past years, we have conducted teen surveys at the end of the cafe season at many of our sites. The results from doing this in the first two years pretty much confirmed that you were getting the same kinds of impacts that we had in our project in NM from 2008-2011.  We are not going to do that survey again on a national scale with our national evaluators.

As always, you are free to do any type of evaluation you wish locally. And you are free to use the instruments that we have used in the past for the teen surveys or any other survey.

If you do conduct evaluation, we would appreciate if you shared the results and the instrument with the network so that we can all learn more about the impact of teen café activities and continue to improve our instruments. The 2014_TSCN_TeenSurvey_FINAL.pdf can be found in our Resources area. The Teen Leader Focus Group Report is also available in the Resources area.
