Tainui hosts vaka representatives for Post Mua Voyage meeting in Auckland, New Zealand

The Māori tribe, Tainui hosted and welcomed vaka leaders from the Pacific Island voyaging societies with a pōwhiri (traditional welcome) in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand) on Monday 13 April.

When Earth Day is every day in Palau

On Wednesday, 22nd of April the world celebrated Earth Day. For one country in Oceania, the celebration was anything but new because every day on the island of Palau is Earth day.

ARRIVALS
Mr Marco Arena

Marco joins us as a Consultant on the Energy Programme. He is an environmental and resource economist. Marco has been working in the Pacific region for the last 3 years strengthening the use of economic analysis in decision making processes focusing on cost benefit analysis and ecosystem services valuation.
Miss Maria Laqeta

Maria joins us as the Personal Assistant to the Regional Director taking over from Lavinia Radiva. Maria comes from a corporate organization with many years of experience in administration management.
 
Miss Mere Nasila-Nagatalevu

Mere joins us as a Communications Assistant in the Regional Directors Office. She previously worked in the corporate sector in the areas of Marketing and Communications.
 
Mr Mason Smith

Mason joins us as a Regional Programme Coordinator for IUCN Oceania. He has a Masters of Management in Defence Studies from the University of Canberra and a Post Graduate Certificate in Diplomacy from the University of Fiji. Mason has a distinguished career in Fiji’s Civil Service, the Military an in the local private sector. 
 
Mr Naushad Yakub

Naushad joins us as a as a Project Liaison Officer on MACBIO Project. He has a Post-graduate Diploma in Climate Change from University of the South Pacific, Fiji. Naushad has been the Fiji Country Coordinator on University of the South Pacific, European Union Global Climate Change Alliance Project (USPEUGCCA) in building resilience of vulnerable communities to impacts of climate change in Fiji.
 
Mr Romain Besseau

Romain joins us as an Intern for the energy programme. He holds an engineer degree in physics and energy from the ESPCI ParisTech, Paris.
DEPARTURES
Mr Heath Synnott

Heath was our Communications Officer. He was with us for one year.
Miss Lavenia Radiva

Lavenia was the Personal Assistant to the Regional Director. She was with us for 14 months.
