Writer Steve Madgwick selected 10 National Parks that he felt deserve as much attention as some of the big guns like Kakadu and the Daintree. We were not surprised to see our very own Otway National Park make the list and be recognised for its location, beauty and close proximity to delicious local produce. Find out more

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILTY FOR BUSINESS
In our beautiful part of the world we are always thinking about the environment and we encourage business to do so too.  Business Victoria has a fantastic tool available - the Environmental Sustainability Hub which provides all sorts of information for business.  An example is this great waste management app, Wise Up On Waste for professional kitchens to conveniently monitor and track food waste. The app helps you to identify when and where you are generating the most food waste and what the potential cost saving to your business can be if you reduce your waste by 20%. There are also case studies covering topics such as cost control, green initiatives, environmental sustainability and sustainable business materials and provide great tips for you to use in your business. Red Balloon founding director and Shark Tank judge Naomi Simson has a valuable tip for all business owners to keep the passion alive in their business: reading customer stories. “As soon as I read them, I work out that I made a difference to their lives,” Simson says. For tourism businesses this is easy as tools like Tripadvisor and social media channels provide a platform for customers to share their stories. Read more

GREAT OCEAN ROAD TRAFFIC ALERT
Towards the end of May, VicRoads contractors will commence work to prevent rocks falling on to the Great Ocean Road between Fairhaven and Lorne. These activities will involve temporary road closures for up to 10 minutes at a time and speed restrictions will apply. Traffic controllers will be on site to ensure the safety of road workers and road users. Drivers are asked to plan their journey and allow for extra travel time, as delays should be expected. JETSTAR DECISION A BIG WIN FOR TOURISM
The recent State Government announcement that Jetstar will continue operating at Avalon Airport for a further ten years is a win for Victorian tourism. It is positive to see that the agreement will mean the continuation of Avalon Airport’s passenger operations, saving 200 jobs from being lost, and the expansion of Jetstar’s services. Jetstar will increase flights at Avalon from five to seven daily and introduce flights to two new domestic destinations over the next 18 months.

Avalon’s location is of great advantage for visitors wanting to explore regional tourism destinations such the Great Ocean Road. The expansion will see the arrival of approximately 700 more visitors in the region each week, which will be a positive for the local tourism industry.  International travel to Australia is forecast to grow by more than 2 million people annually by 2019, which highlights an expected increase in demand for aviation services.
