The Art of Nature
Dear <<Name>>
Both Art and Nature are incredibly active in our Biosphere in this most vibrant month of May, with life bursting forth from every space in terms of both ecology (see our monthly nature calendar) and culture - through the Brighton Festival.
The focus of this e-news edition is inspired by one of the principal themes of the Brighton Festival this year: the relationship between Art and Nature. We are thus proud to be collaborating with a variety of performances that are truly innovative in nature:
Gauge (Circus Street market) - a sonically orchestrated playground of investigation into weather, water and scale!
& Water Matters – Gauge meets Biosphere - a weekend of family fun featuring our Minecraft water world and a daily discussion
Dawn Chorus ( Fabrica, Duke Street) - film installation by Marcus Coates using unique digital methods linking birds and people
A Murmuration ( ONCA, St. George's Place) - multimedia installation framed around bird observation, migration and peoples' freedom
Bringing the two themes of art and nature together, LIz Whitehead - co-director of the Fabrica gallery and Biosphere board member - writes on the theme of "art for change" in this month's Bio Blog (below).
We are probably unique in UNESCO's global network of World Biosphere Regions, in possessing not only a rich diversity of nature but also such a wealth of cultural creativity on our doorstep.
Make time to enjoy both this month!

Art for Change

Feeling, understanding, empathising, being able to imagine yourself…these are the prerequisites to changing attitudes and behaviours.
Our current behaviour - as individuals, families and communities - is a big part of the challenge to live more sustainably in our Biosphere.
It is our interest - the majority - which must be engaged, including through the arts, if we and other species are to thrive… read full blog
