Top Designers Support London Craft Week

Jay Osgerby - Designer

"An understanding of making is at the heart of all great design, the launch of London Craft Week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate British craftsmanship and its longstanding role in our cultural identity."

Patrick Grant - Creative Director of E. Tautz & Sons & Presenter the Sewing Bee

"Craft is a broad church and my selection reflects this. My selection includes something for the nose, something for the eye, something for the brain. From ink to oil. A brilliant collective. And one of my great inspirations, Mr Thomas Heatherwick."

Jane Withers - Design Consultant & Curator

"Craft is such a big and open discussion at the moment, so I am fascinated to see how people stretch the boundaries - twist it from traditional roots associated with luxury to give it contemporary relevance in terms of materials and technologies. This is London Craft Week’s first year but already it looks like a promising line-up from maker’s workshops to luxury houses,  In the Brompton Design District we are fortunate to have different takes on craft from Skandium B&B, and  Cassina looking at the place of craft in pioneering modern furniture design - I’m especially looking forward to seeing the reissue of Franco Albini's experimental  book shelf  Veliero, that borrows from sail-boat engineering -  to Conran hosting colourful Italian glassmaker Massimo Lunardon who pushes  the limits of traditional techniques and  Mint where Lina Kanafani has an amazing eye for spotting new talent."

Stephen Bayley - Design Critic

"The timely London Craft Week reminds us that making things restores all those values lost in the cynical blur of modern politics: respectful relationships, enduring values, admirable principles, dignity and authenticity. It gets my vote."

Brompton Design District

The Brompton Design District, a destination for design, culture, fashion and food in London, showcases six collections that highlight the importance of craft-based techniques and skills evident in the heritage of established design objects and the future of contemporary design.
