Dear Community of Practice Members,


We are pleased to announce that the bursary and scholarship online application forms for 2015 are now open for submissions.  Please share this newsletter with students you know who may be interested in applying for one of the many bursaries or scholarships that the Canadian Mental Health Association- BC Division coordinates.

How You Can Help


1. Forward this email to any students you think might be interested.
2.
Use social media to bring awareness to the available bursaries and scholarships.
3.
Print the promotional poster to share at your institution or organization on a bulletin board, office door, etc.
4.
Share the brochure with a student who you think might be a good candidate for a financial award.

About the Awards


Eligibility Criteria 


To be eligible for any of the bursaries or scholarships outlined below, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • experience of mental illness or substance use problem 
  • accessing therapeutic support/mental health services
  • an identified job goal
  • a demonstrated need for financial assistance 
  • at least 19 years of age and a resident of British Columbia
  • will be enrolled at a recognized BC post-secondary institution by December 1, 2015

Lorne Fraser Educational Bursary  

  • several $700 bursaries awarded 


Lorne Fraser Scholarship for Mental Health Promotion

  • one $2000 scholarship and one $1000 scholarship
  • must be entering the second, third or fourth year of an undergraduate or graduate program at a designated British Columbia university or college
  • educational and vocational goals must relate to mental health promotion 


LGM Continuous Learning Bursary 

  • one $800 bursary 
  • student must already be enrolled or plan to successfully enroll at the fully accredited Athabasca University via distance learning by December 1, 2015
  • students who need an additional course via distance learning may be especially interested in applying for this bursary


 

Know a Student Who is Under 19?

The Janice Lee Blue Wave Bursary may be an option for them!  Students are eligible for this award if they:

  • Have experienced a significant mental health or substance use problem and are accessing treatment and support
  • Can demonstrate financial need
  • Are under the age of 19 at the time of application
  • Have lived in BC for at least a year from the date of their application
  • Are not enrolling in a government-sponsored job training program
  • Will be enrolled in first year studies at a recognized BC university, college or technical school by January 1 of the year after they are applying.
Applications due May 28th, 2015.
