A Message From The President

CommTech Minister, Omobola Johnson commissions NIRA House.
 

With thankful and grateful heart to God and appreciation to mankind, I can boldly say I am fulfiled with the commissoining of the NIRA Office Complex, located in the heart of Lagos, at 8, Funsho Williams Avenue, Iporin , Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

The Office Complex was commissioned by Dr. (Mrs.) Omobola Olubusola Johnson, the Honourable Minister of Communication Technology (COMMTECH) on Friday, 17th April 2015. Dr. Eugene Juwah the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) was ably represented by Engr. Haru Alhassan. Mr Peter Jack, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) also ably  represented by Mr. Akinyele Okeremi, member, NITDA Governing Board the occasion.

I would like to thank everyone that joined us on the occasion of the commissioning.  We thank the Dr. (Mrs) Omobola Johnson, The Honourable Minister, Communication Technology, Mr. Peter Jack, DG NITDA, Engineer Eugene Juwah (EVC NCC), NiRA Board of Trustees (BOT) led by the Chairman BOT, Mr. Chima Onyekwere (OON), NiRA Executive Board of Directors (EBOD), NiRA Registrars, NiRA Registrants, our stakeholders, our members, the Secretariat staff and Gentlemen of the Press.
This property serves not only as the Operational Headquarters of NiRA, but also provides for a Resource Centre for training and certification in Domain Name System (DNS) ,an e-Library for research in DNS, fully furnished offices for short term hiring and a cafeteria.

With this achievement, the future looks very bright for NIRA.  
Once more, I thank everyone that was present at the commissioning of the NiRA Office Complex and solicit for your continued support of NiRA and all its efforts by switching to .ng.

Thursday, 30th April 2015 has finally come. The NiRA 7th Annual General Meeting (AGM) is today and as earlier announed at NiRA House, Iponri- Surulere, Lagos. We thank all for attending the AGM.


The Cross Community Working Group  (CWG-IANA) to develop an  IANA Stewardship Transition proposal on Naming related functions has published the 2nd draft proposal for  public comment.  The Comment Peroid  opened on the 22nd of April and will close by 20th of May 2015.  The document is online at https://www.icann.org/public-comments/cwg-stewardship-draft-proposal-2015-04-22-en

I enscourage you to please read the proposal and make your comments.  The IANA Stewardship transition proposal that would affect your buiness regarding  the IANA Functions  is contianed in this document. 
Let all stakeholders get engaged, informed and make your voices heard.

Mr. Folayan, Chairman Afrinc present Alan Barrett.

Mr. Sunday Folayan was at the AFRINIC Headquarters, on the beautiful Island of Mauritius to officially present the new Chief Executive Officer Alan Barrett to the Management and Staff. Mr. Folayan had worked together with Alan severally within the African Internet Ecosystem. He was delighted that the leading Internet Organization in Africa will be superintended by a very capable hand.
 
He expressed his deep appreciation to Pat Déesse the Interim Chief Executive Officer for holding the fort after the departure of the pioneer Chief Executive Officer, Adiel Akplogan since the inception of AFRINIC in 2005. He congratulated Adiel Akplogan for his legacy of hard work, the testament of which is the large and stable organization that continues to serve AFRICA with fair and equitable management of its IP Resources. He commented that Africa would always be grateful to Mr. Akplogan for his services.
 
As Chairman of the Board, Mr. Folayan would give Alan all the cooperation needed to succeed in his new assignment and called on every other stakeholder in the AFRINIC project to join in building a better organization. 

ICANN Announces Whois Information Policy and Whois Advisory 


ICANN announced the effective date of the Additional Whois Information Policy (AWIP) and WHOIS advisory as 31 January 2016. In addition, ICANN published an updated WHOIS advisory based on input from the community.
 
The updated WHOIS advisory was intended to provide clarification for contracted parties regarding Registration Data Directory Service (RDDS) specifications of the Registry Agreement and Registrar Accreditation Agreement. RDDS specifications are also known as WHOIS.
Registries and Registrars have until 31 January 2016 to implement the AWIP and the WHOIS Advisory. Contracted parties will receive formal notice within the next two weeks.

As a member, your financial obligations to the Association is due by 1st January of every financial year. Members are encouraged to pay their dues, including all previous outstanding membership dues. Remember only financial members are eligible to vote or be voted for, or nominate, and be nominated, by the provisions of the NIRA Constitution.Individual membership due is N5,000.00 per annum whilst corporate membership fees is N10,000.00. Prompt payment would be appreciated to enable update of membership records before the AGM, planned for April 2015.
