APRIL 2015
A few weeks ago, one of our internship alums turned ReKon staff, Katie Barreira worked on an amazing shoot in DTLA that altered the way she looks at the future of film. Directed by familiar face Sarah Hamblin (The Mailroom), The Day Shall Declare It is an immersive theatre experience turned interactive short.

Each segment was shot on five static Go-Pros, connected by a device that allows filmmakers to capture 360 degrees of the world they create. The end product will yield an experience one can physically and visually interact with - one that the audience must participate in to enjoy. Inspired by visual reality media at Sundance 2015, Sarah has taken a step beyond what many have accomplished, creating a reality that may one day become the norm of entertainment.

Stay tune for more information on this exciting new short and form. Innovative filmmaker Sarah Hamblin will be providing guest blogging about her experience and insight with this project in the upcoming months.
Recent Happenings

ReKon and J. Randy Taraborrelli Productions  teamed up to film a sizzle reel for a comedy focusing on a family owned martial arts studio. Rolling with Punches is the story of two brothers teaching classes while competing for a girl’s attention and dealing with their father’s differing perspective on the business.

[gg] The Series completed a successful Kickstarter Campaign. Thanks to everyone who gave their support and came out to our event

Movie Making is hard work, and much more complicated than just pointing a camera and rolling.  There are moving parts that not everyone thinks of, such as feeding crew, paying for gas, and getting enough hard drives that if one breaks, there are backups. Its often thankless work, but that is what ReKon likes to do.

This time it was our great privilege to do our work with Our Last Night. Matt Wentworth, the band’s lead guitar, set out on a mission. Already busy cutting their newest album, prepping for their world tour, they decided to add more to their plate and make a music video or two before taking to the road. It was then they realized they couldn’t do EVERYTHING on their own, and decided to call ReKon for our production expertise. Producer John Thomas Schrad jumped on to helm the project.

Shot by visionary cinematographer David Carstens the video took form in the span of a single day’s filming at Independence Studio. It always does a heart good to see the creative efforts of so many come to fruition in such a dazzling manner. At the end of the day, the trucks were loaded, the crew headed home, the band was off to finalize the album, and ReKon’s Producer was left to begin the post production. An often thankless job, that at the end of the day is one of the most rewarding.

Check for the video to drop early summer.
