#THINKDIFFERENT

Hi there <<First Name>>

The subject line is a bit morbid, but it is a true reflection of what I wish to share with you.

Moonyeen I regularly walk in our hometown village. We pretend it is exercise but it is an excuse to have a coffee and a chat. Over the years we met and befriended a few locals, one of them being a gentleman called Don.

Over the past seven years he has aged rapidly.  Now he is frail and riddled with cancer. He has sold his house, and moved into the local nursing home. He told us this morning that he told the doctor that if he had a gun he would borrow it. He has no family but many friends. and no financial concerns - so his situation is about as good as one can hope for.

It is truly sad.though.

Yet the reality is that Don's present is the best future we can hope for. If you are young, this may seem morbid and a long way off. But take it from someone who has been there (younger) it happens A LOT quicker than you think.

If this reality we all face is to be of any use, it should influence how we live today. It may seem so cliched but cliches are worn-out truths for a reason - most people discover them sooner or later:

But the reality is that we have to work to live too and most jobs are not meaningful in and of themselves. Whether you run a retail business or are a corporate warrior in a cubicle, how does life have meaning?

It is not WHAT you do, but how you do it.

You can be marketing intern or a successful entrepreneur, but either way you can do it with a view of how you can help other people. Everyone can dial back the level of self-serving actions and self-interest a notch or two. We can all change the radio station we normally listen to (WIIFM = Whats In It For Me) and tune it to What Can I do For You.

JUST IN CASE... you thought it was not a very business like topic, allow me to share both of these MUST-READ articles from reputable publications:

Forbes asks 35 Questions that will change your life and
In Harvard Business Review Clayton Christensen asks: How will you measure your life?

YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT

And here are a few more original insights, just for you - on the rather morbid topic of what a life worth living looks like:

  • To Love > To Be Loved
  • It takes courage to love unconditionally
  • To walk alone is a privilege, to walk together is a gift
  • Believe in something greater than yourself
  • A good heart never runs out of room

MUST READS: I FOUND THIS FOR YOU ON THE INTERNET
