FROM THE MAYOR

Scenic Rim Regional Council was audited by the Queensland Audit Office (QAO) for the 2013/14 financial year, and I am pleased to announce we have again been ranked among the most financially sustainable local government areas in Queensland. This is the third consecutive year we have achieved a place in the lower risk category, which demonstrates Council's fiscal management policies and long-term financial strategy.
A total of 69 councils were audited, with 14 assessed in the high risk category, 19 with a moderate risk and the balance in the lower risk category.
Councils in the final category demonstrate a "lower risk of financial sustainability concerns based on current income, expenditure, asset investment and debt financing policies" according to the QAO report. By any measure we are a lean organisation and one which is continually reviewing its resourcing and considering the most efficient way to deliver services to ensure the most cost-effective outcomes for ratepayers. Through the process of finalising Council's budgetary settings for 2015/16, the community can be assured we are endeavouring to keep any increases in rates and charges to an absolute minimum. Council remains committed to easing the pressure on Scenic Rim households in the forthcoming Budget and I remain focused on ensuring that Council lives within its means while maintaining service delivery to the Scenic Rim community at present or better levels as the region grows.
