The Portal of Evolution sculpture has moved from City Plaza to its new location on the east end of Bicentennial Park.

Science Corner

As an adaptation to living in arid environments, California quails often get by with very little water. They acquire most of their moisture from insects and succulent vegetation. Never-the-less, during periods of high heat they must find drinking water to survive.

Supporting our Parks

If you haven't already, please head to our website and sign a letter to your elected officials showing your support for our parks. It's as easy as a few clicks, and it can make a world of difference.

Park Highlight

Deer Park is one of the oldest parks in Sparks and is located at Rock Blvd. and Prater Way. Within this park are numerous cottonwood trees, which by all accounts are some of the oldest in the city. It is also the site of one of the City’s outdoor pools making it a popular summer stop. This park may also be rented for group picnics.

Phase I of the Virginia Lake Dog Park Nearing Completion

With big thanks to Silverwing Development, Robison Engineering, the VLDPRP, and all the generous individual supporters, Phase I of the Virginia Lake Dog Park is now under construction! With everyone's help, we raised $49,288 in cash and in-kind donations to get this renovation started.

Now we are hoping to raise another $50,000 for Phase II, which includes:
  • photovoltaic (solar) LED lighting
  • 16' x 16' shade structure
  • three benches in the small dog area
  • two benches in the large dog area
  • improved landscaping
  • dog agility features
An additional thanks to Peter Lissner, with Lifestyle Homes, for his pledge of $1,000 toward Phase II. It's a great way to get started.
