A unique venue is currently in negotiation – The Arab Music Institute Hall

Switzerland debut for ECME at Int. Contemporary Music Festival Forum Wallis
When four helicopters will take off with a string quartet inside next week to mark the 9th annual festival for contemporary music in Leuk/ Switzerland, the Egyptian Contemporary Music Ensemble from Cairo will represent the Arab voice in the Swiss Alps. A series of works by Bassam Halaka will be given by ECME under his direction at their concert on May 23, 8pm at the beautifully renovated Castle of Leuk. Organised by the Valais section of the International Society for Contemporary Music, Forum Wallis, which runs from May 21 through 25 this year, presents numerous young composers from around the globe as well as classics such as Karlheinz Stockhausen who  wrote his famous Helicopter String Quartet as part of the gigantic cycle “Light” consisting of seven operas. Who we are, how we want to live and communicate in today´s challenging world, where we want to go with it – these are the questions that contemporary works of art such as those presented at the Forum Wallis festival help us think about. www.ForumWallis.ch
