Dear Mountain Sage Families,

I am writing to inform you all that our dear friend and colleague, Ruth Kasl, has passed away.

Ruth was a gifted Waldorf kindergarten teacher who deeply affected our young school community in a positive way. Ruth had a wisdom, experience, and peace about her that allowed her to look at the larger picture of our school and quietly guide us in things like consensus decision making and bridge-building in relationships. All of us knew that any moment Ruth was with her children was a moment when they were learning to be a little bit better version of themselves. Ruth built a particularly unique bridge between home and school in the lives of our youngest Mountain Sage children. It seems fitting that she chose to leave us on Mother’s Day weekend since she played the role of “mother” and “teacher” to so many over the years, both to children and adults under her mentorship.

Please hold Ruth in your thoughts this week, as well as her daughter and grandson who she loved very much. We will keep the school community informed about opportunities to celebrate Ruth, in the weeks to come. At this time, we ask that you hold the children and staff in your hearts.

The song that our children can’t seem to stop singing lends itself to this difficult moment:

Round and round we go,
We hold each other’s hands.
We weave our lives in a circle.
Our love is strong and the dance goes on…

With so much love and gratitude for our community,
Liv Helmericks and the entire Mountain Sage Staff
