Indego - Philly Bike Share

City-wide bike rental service

Philadelphia continues to be one of the most bike-friendly cities in the country with the launch of its own bike sharing program called Indego.

Launched in the spring of 2015, Indego allows visitors or members to rent bicycles from 70 stations located from the Delaware River, across the Schuylkill River, into West Philadelphia and from South Philadelphia to North Philadelphia, including Temple University’s main campus.

Cyclists can walk up to any Indego station and check out bikes for quick trips around the city 24 hours a day, seven days a week.. The quick and convenient system allows users to return their bike rental to the nearest station after their ride is complete.

Opening of Spuce St Harbor Park & Summerfest

Spruce St Harbor Park returns for its second summer and is joined by the first ever Summerfest featuring roller skating at Penn's Landing.

Good things come to those who wait. Last year’s blockbuster summer attraction on the Delaware River Waterfront, Spruce Street Harbor Park, has made its grand return on Memorial Day weekend.

Reopening May 22, the second year of the beloved pop-up park features more hammocks for lounging, more food to enjoy and more ways to celebrate the summer on the waterfront.

Presented by Univest and Valley Green Bank, the summer oasis is FREE and open to the public every day through September.

The Layout

The key features that led Spruce Street Harbor Park to be named one of the best urban beaches in the world by The Huffington Post is back and better than ever in 2015.

The extremely-popular hammock garden is expanded, offering more opportunities to lounge among the trees. Once the sun sets, the park lights up with hundreds of multi-colored LED lights, creating a breathtaking evening landscape.

Additional seating is available around the Columbus Monument along with oversized games like Jenga and chess. Converted shipping containers along the waterfront are used to create the park’s Boardwalk area featuring photo spots, arcade games and refreshments.

Out on the water, three floating barges  house the Oasis featuring a pop-up restaurant and bar featuring delicious bites from the Garces Group.

The Floating Restaurant

The Garces Group  brings delicious concept restaurant and bar to the floating barges at Spruce Street Harbor Park. A perfect place for a summer happy hour, the floating dining destination features colorful waterfront seating, a lily pad floating water garden and a net lounge that extends out over the river.

Blue Cross RiverRink SummerFest

Philadelphia is getting its first-ever outdoor roller rink on the Delaware River with the inaugural Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest.

Located just steps from Spruce Street Harbor Park, the warm-weather sibling to the popular Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest, Summerfest  features brand-new roller rink, a boathouse-styled Lodge, a play area for kids, food and drink options and summer events throughout the season.

Having opened Memorial Day weekend (May 22), Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest is free and open to the public daily through the end of September.

Philadelphia paid sick leave went into effect May 13th

Passed in February, the law requires employers with 10 or more employees to offer paid sick time.

Philadelphia's paid-sick-leave law took  effect Wednesday May 13th, and city officials encouraged workers to make sure their employers knew about the new rules.

Passed in February, the law requires employers with 10 or more workers to offer paid sick time.

Employees who were not previously given sick leave can start accruing it at a rate of one hour of paid time per 40 hours worked. The law caps sick time at 40 hours a year, or five eight-hour days.

Councilman William K. Greenlee, who pushed for the bill for more than three years, said the new law applies to 180,000 to 200,000 city residents.

Weeks after Nutter signed it into law, the state Senate passed legislation to quash it. That bill - which would make municipal paid-sick-leave laws illegal - is awaiting a final vote in the House. Greenlee said he hopes that if the bill passes in the House, as expected, Gov. Wolf will veto it.

"We now have a law, and we're moving forward with it, and whatever happens in Harrisburg, we'll see what happens, " Greenlee said.

Members of City Council had planned to stake out various SEPTA stations  on May 13th to remind people on their way to work of their new right.

Greenlee encouraged employees to talk to their bosses and make sure there is a record of time worked.

He said the Managing Director's Office would receive complaints about noncompliant employers.
