This Wednesday at the market
Here at the farmers market, we have a few exciting events going on! El BurroPollo will be selling their famed burritos. Chef Kate Christman is back, sharing her tricks and tips for cooking with seasonal food. We're still enrolling folks up for the last few days of the SNAP Challenge, it's not too late to sign up! And, we'd like to welcome Stolen Flowers Farm to the market - the mother/daughter duo specializes in cut flowers and floral design. We're in also in the market for volunteers to lend us a hand at market. Click here if you're interested! Hope to see you tomorrow afternoon!
Decatur Wednesday market is open rain or shine from 4 to 7pm at the front lawn of the Decatur First Baptist Church
El BurroPollo Pop Up
Join Chef Hector Santiago for his delicious pop up,
El BurroPollo burrito stand at the market this Wednesday! Chef Santiago made his name in Atlanta with Pura Vida, a Latin restaurant with incredibly tasty tapas, and it's super flavorful sandwich offshoot, Super Pan. Most recently, he served as Executive Chef at Abbatoir. This week's pop up will serve what Atlantans have called the "best burrito in the city!"
The food really does live up to the hype, taste for yourself - he'll be there for the whole market, from 4 to 7pm. Come on down and have yourself a burrito picnic in the shade on the lawn.
Chef Demo
See Chef Kate Christman at the Decatur Market Chef booth from 4:30 to 6:30 to sample her wonderful "tastes of market." In addition to her work as owner/chef of Three Squares Kitchen, Chef Kate also works with Decatur-based organizations to provide in-house cooking demonstrations as a part of our outreach programming.
Meet Your Vendor
Mealor Family Gardens is back at Decatur Farmers Market for the season! They take great pride in providing sustainably grown, fresh vegetables, fruits and berries from right here in Decatur! They make their own compost on site from spent brewery grains (from Twains), veggie scraps, leaves, hay, sawdust, wood chips, etc — and they never use pesticides. From their garden, "it’s ALL about the SOIL!"
Sunday marked the beginning of the SNAP Challenge! The challenge has enrolled folks that will eat on the average American food assistance budget, $4.17 per day, for the next week to raise awareness of healthy food access issues.
A huge thank you is in order for those of you who registered for the challenge! But, it's not too late to get involved. We are still enrolling people, so sign up online or at our market, under the community tent! AND, please share your experiences with us at the market and on social media! #SNAPChallengeGA
Join us in celebrating the nexus of local art and local food at the summer event of the year, WonderFarm, on June 6th at Ponce City Market! The event will showcase a multitude of art installations and performances, and will feature an incredible dinner by some of the south's finest chefs. Proceeds will benefit Community Farmers Market and WonderRoot. Visit the WonderFarm website for tickets and details.
