A Peanut Butter Story

This year, we've collected 148 pounds of peanut butter. Yes, really. We started Peanut Butter Sunday in January; the next one is this Sunday! (Sorry for the confusion, but no worries. The peanut butter is safe!) Those 148 pounds equal 93 jars of peanut butter. Most likely, that means 93 households received a jar of peanut butter from us. That's nothing to sneeze at. Hungry people are being fed with what we collect in our grocery cart every month.
In case you're not already convinced that peanut butter is one of the more amazing foods on the planet, here are some reasons food pantries need it so much.
  • It's shelf stable protein. No dented cans mean it doesn't need to be discarded. Heat might make it gooey but doesn't mean it will ruin the food. Lunch box or car, it's ok.
  • It's easy access food. Kids can make a sandwich after school. You don't need a working stove, microwave, or refrigerator to use peanut butter.
Our peanut butter stays in our area, going to emergency food boxes at Chandler Christian Community Center. People in need can go and get boxes once a month. Each box contains enough food for the entire household for three days. On almost every list the Center sends out, peanut butter is one of the most needed items.

Peanut Butter Sunday matters more than you realize. Bring a jar or two on the 17th.
The East Valley Youth Group meets Sunday, at 5 p.m. We'll be bowling at AMF Mesa, 2115 E Southern Ave. Bring $12 for food, bowling, and shoes. Let Rev. Abigail know if you're coming.

Friends are welcome!

Are you saving your plastic bags? Even if you mostly remember your reusable ones, the few you end up with can still be used. So what's going on with those bags? They'll be used to make plarn to make mats at General Assembly. Wanna know more? Check it out!
