With our VISTAs finally onboard, the Idaho AfterSchool Network will soon have more of a presence throughout Idaho. They will be attending community events, collecting stories and compiling infomation about out-of-school programs from all over the state for our interactive map.

Registration is now open for the 2015 Lights on AfterSchool events!

This event is a national public awareness event to highlight out-of-school programs on October 22nd, and thousands of events are held locally across the nation. It is an opportunity to show off your program to your community. You can design what the event looks like, but here are some ideas. The IAN will be heavily involved in connecting Idaho's events and driving press where we can too. Click here to register! Even if you don't have all the details right now, you can still register and edit once your event unfolds.

Also this month, the Afterschool Alliance launched the Art Contest for the national 2015 Lights On AfterSchool event. I would LOVE to have Idaho artwork submitted! They are looking for artwork that celebrates afterschool programs and conveys the importance of keeping the lights on afterschool.

The 2015 Lights On Afterschool winning poster design will be printed on tens of thousands of posters and mailed to more than 8,000 Lights On Afterschool events worldwide.  The winning artist will also be featured on the Afterschool Alliance website, blog, Afterschool Storybook, and a national press release. Click here for more details on submitting your artwork!

If you decide to host a LightsOn event and/or submit artwork, please shoot me an email.

Thank you to those who have shared the stories of after school programs with the Network and press! These stories are invaluable to creating more awareness and support for out-of-school programs in our state. Check out these stories in the right hand column. Please keep them coming!

If you want tips on how to share your stories with the press, online or on social media, check out the communication tool kit and the media directory located in the right hand column.

Also on the right, check out the upcoming conferences. Great opportunities for professional development and networking, and some are for no charge.

Thank you for all you do!

We want your opinion! We put out a survey last month to collect opinions about the professional development needs for out-of-school providers. We also want to know if you would be willing to offer your expertise or experience. Click here to take the 8 question survey today!

Become a Community Mentor! Community mentors are still needed for these new VISTAs. A "community mentor" helps our VISTAs navigate through our communities. Our VISTAs are new to the field and need direction on where to go from time to time, who to reach out to, a place to hold an event etc. If you can help in this way, click here to shoot me an email. If you have already agreed to be a mentor, they will be reaching out to you starting in June.

Idaho Gives day hit record numbers - over 1 million was raised in one day for Idaho's non-profits on May 7th. The Idaho AfterSchool Network particpated for the first time this year, and we raised $910 (not bad for the new kid on the block). Thank you so much to those who donated to the Network!  Our link is still live if you would like help us complete our $2500 goal
