You are invited to join the

2015-2016 Northshore
Math Fellows Program!

Northshore School District is excited to enter our second year of NSD Secondary Math Fellows! Secondary math teachers in the Northshore School District seeking professional learning and leadership opportunities in Common Core State Standards (CCSS) implementation are encouraged to participate.

The 2015-2016 Secondary Math Fellows program will engage teachers in a blended learning environment that provides online learning opportunities on a flexible schedule and face-to-face learning through job-embedded peer coaching and collaboration. In designing next year's program, I researched best practices for teacher professional development and have taken suggestions from current Math Fellows into consideration to create a professional learning model that:

  • is collaborative
  • is job-embedded so that much of our professional learning occurs within the school day
  • is directly applicable to your daily work of instructing students
  • supports implementation of new strategies into daily instruction, rather than a one-shot meeting or workshop that leaves it up to the teacher to figure out how to put new learning into practice.

Goals of 2015-2016 Math Fellows

Teachers will:
  • Build understanding of the math teaching practices presented in NCTM’s Principles To Actions
  • Develop and implement lessons that incorporate math teaching practices
  • Receive support from colleagues through collaborative planning and peer coaching
  • Become more reflective practitioners

Other Benefits

Teachers will also:
  • Earn 35 clock hours, with opportunities to earn tech hours
  • Earn up to 12 hours of curriculum pay
  • Create artifacts that can be submitted as part of their TPEP evaluation
  • Collect student data that can be used to support student growth goals
  • Be a teacher leader in their buildings and in the district
  • Network with other teacher leaders in Northshore, Shoreline and Monroe School Districts

Commitments

Each 2015-2016 Math Fellow agrees to:
  • Participate in a blended PD model during the 2015-2016 school year that incorporates flexible online learning with job-embedded learning activities that support implementation of new learning
  • Administer baseline tasks at beginning and of school year and collect student data
  • Attend 3 face-to-face meetings during the school year: 9/15/15, 1/12/16, and 4/28/16
