A Message from Tim Mooney

My dear friends at First Presbyterian of Brighton,

I hope you are doing well and thriving!  I’m very excited about sharing with you an amazing fundraising adventure with my good friend Carter Via, a classmate at Princeton, and a fellow Presbyterian Pastor.  We are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money for a school in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya.  Carter is founder and executive director of Cross Cultural Thresholds and is doing amazing work for some of the most poverty stricken people in the world.  You can watch this short video about the elementary school the money is going to:

Please click the green “Donate” button below to go to my fundraising page and make a donation if you can.

My goal is to raise $20,000 and every dollar matters.  Please donate what you can!

Thank you!  Much love!

Tim Mooney

Final Team Zimbabwe Warm-Up Ride

team zimbabwe2

We have one more Team Zimbabwe rides planned for Sunday, May 31st right after late worship service.   Wear your Team Zimbabwe jerseys and come to church ready to ride.  Don’t forget to bring your bicycle, water bottle, helmet and a light lunch or snack.  Come to the church library after late service.   We will leave our vehicles at the church and will begin and end our ride in the church parking lot.  The rides will be on bike paths in the City of Brighton.

Even if you are not planning to ride in the Subaru Elephant Rock Cycling Festival on June 7th, come join us and have a fun time in the warm, sunny, fresh air getting to know others from our congregation.  See you Sunday!

Bibles for the Display Case

bibles

Please bring your favorite, oldest, biggest, smallest, most used Bible to the church office or give them to Joann Briggs or Julie Dickman by Sunday, May 31st for the display case in the Narthex.

We have recently experienced Lent, a season of spiritual discipline and anticipation of the death and resurrection of Christ.  Holy Week followed beginning with Ash Wednesday, a time of remembrance and proclamation of the atoning suffering and death of Jesus Christ.  Then Easter was celebrated as the day of the Lord’s resurrection and the season of rejoicing which commemorates his ministry until his Ascension.  We celebrate the Resurrection for 49 days, until May 31st.  The white cloths will remain in the church, the crosses will stay in the display case and the lessons will reflect appropriate gospel lessons.  At the end of 49 days is the Day of Pentecost, the celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church.  Colors will change, the display will change to Bibles and the lesson will continue to fit the new season.

Family Movie Night: “Meet the Robinsons”

Meet the Robinsons

Our free family movie night will be on Friday, June 12th.  Join us at 7:00 PM for yummy snacks and to watch “Meet the Robinsons” together.  Bring your family and friends for a great time!

Relay for Life

relay for life

Relay For Life – will be held on Friday, June 19th, over night and finishing up at 7:00am on Saturday, June 20th. What is Relay For Life? It is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk where teams of people camp out around a track. Members of each team take turns walking around a track, while enjoying food, games and entertainment. This is a family-friendly community event!

The Survivors Lap – During the Survivors Lap, all cancer survivors at the event take the first lap around the track, celebrating their victory over cancer while cheered on by the other participants who line the track. Relay For Life events also recognize and celebrate caregivers, who give time, love, and support to their friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers facing cancer. If you would like a survivor t-shirt and like to walk in the survivors lap – sign up at the table in the narthex.

Luminaria Ceremony -The Luminaria Ceremony takes place after dark, so we can remember people we have lost to cancer, honor people who have fought cancer in the past, and support those whose fight continues. Candles are lit inside of personalized bags and are placed around the Relay track as glowing tributes to those who’ve been affected by cancer. If you would like to purchase a Luminaria bag to decorate you can find them on the table in the narthex, the cost is a $10.00 donation.

Would you like to be on the First Presbyterian Church Team? Come to the table to sign up for the time you would like to walk, (you don’t have to stay the entire night) – But you might want too! This walk is a great way to get to know others on the team, have some fun and lots of great food, and most of all know that you are doing something to help out cancer research. We will start walking at 6:00pm on Friday and finish at 7:00am on Saturday morning.  To be on the team, there is $100.00 donation. Join the team today and help support cancer research!
